Jiko

I am probably the only person who had a bad experience. We went 3 years ago for our wedding anniversary. We heard wonderful things and were very excited to try it. Unfortunately, we had THE worst server I've had in my entire life. I'm usually laid back about service because I worked in the restaurant industry for many years. He made our entire dining experience into a sales pitch, and after we wouldn't buy an expensive bottle of wine he recommended....we got ignored the rest of the night. He didn't deliver our food, never checked back on us, and we had to ask another server for our check. The experience was so bad that we spoke to a manager about it. He was not so apologetic and said to try them again. That turned us off especially since we spent a lot on dinner, and it was our Anniversary.

We would really like to try it again since we stay at AKL all the time. It's nice to hear that most people love it and had great experiences.

We had a great meal at Jiko. The appetizers were a little wierd (I got the chef's specialty flatbread and my wife got the corn soup, I think,) but the entrees were amazing. My wife got the filet, which was excellent. I got the pork tenderloin, which was, without a doubt, the absolute, best, juciest, amazing pork tenderloin that I have ever eaten. For dessert, my wife had the pistachio creme brulee, which she said was excellent, and I tried the chocolate cheesecake (which I thought was so-so, but I think I just don't like chocolate cheesecake.)

We LOVE Jiko. It is a must for each trip and we go 2 to 4 times a year. The filet with mac and cheese is great as well as the kalamata olive flatbread appetizer. Enjoy!

Hands down our favorite restaurant on-property. The filet is amazing, as are all the appetizers we've tried. They also have made us believers in the quality of South African red wines.

Jiko is my new favorite. Check out the link in my siggy and on the OP, there is a link to the Jiko review! The short ribs and lamb were amazing! Also, the cheese plate was so good! I would go again just for the cheese. :lmao:
