I am think about going to Jiko for dinner one night on my upcoming trip, but have not heard that much about it. What do y'all think of it?

Ate there in '05 and really enjoyed it! The duck spring rolls are a must have - and the filet was huge! They have a great selection of beer and wine also, and I didn't feel like the restaurant was stuffy like most upscale places.

There are several reviews (complete with mouthwatering pictures) on the review forum.
Sadly, the duck eggrolls are no longer on the menu:sad:
And I was just reading that they no longer have the tamales as an appetizer either!
We will still eat here on Sunday night though!

We tried Jiko for the first time last month and were very happy with it. I had the filet and DH got the ribs. Both were very good.

I agree with vettechick, it didn't seem stuffy like I expected. I had been nervous about bringing my kids there but there were plenty of them and it seemed very relaxed. :thumbsup2

Jiko is fantastic -- but it's very expensive. If you can spring for it, it's worth every penny.

Not only is the food great---the wine is fantastic. They have the largest collection of South African wines in the U.S. DH went to South Africa & got hooked on these wonderful wines. They also serve & the gift shop sells a wonderful liqueur from Africa called Amarula. Baileys or Kahlua fans MUST try this.

On our 1st visit we asked for the waiter w/ the most knowledge of the wines. We asked him to help us pair our wines to our different courses and had the best meal next to Palo on the DCL Magic that I have ever had. The chef even came out to talk to us. It was an amazing meal.

If you stay at AKL, there is a special safari on grounds which ends w/ a meal at Jiko. It is a wonderful experience.

I have to concur with the other posters. The food was great, the wines were great, and the atmoshpere is not stuffy at all... we were there last summer with a group of 10, including a 1yr old. Everyone enjoyed it.
It is expensive, but it's one of my favorites.

DVC Mary made a great call with Amarula. When we were in South Africa, we sat outside and drank amarula on the rocks every afternoon. When we dined at Jiko last summer, we had Amarula for dessert.

We are going back to Disney again this fall and we have our reservations for Jiko made.

Jiko is a must stop each trip. It's definitely with the top 3 of all Disney restaurants. A bit pricey, but well worth the money.

Jiko is a must for anyone interested in delicious food and wine traveling to WDW :thumbsup2
EXCELLENT restaurant. I've been probably 20 times and absolutely LOVE the people there and the food :lovestruc

Jiko is my favorite restaurant in all of WDW.
It is a beautiful atmosphere, with warm, friendly, knowledgeable servers and delicious food. We asked our waiter for a recommendation for wine and we shared a wonderful bottle.
On our last trip the night we ate there we did not see any children at all.
We love it here and thinkit is worth the cost.
Have a great trip.

Just to chime in that we loved Jiko. Best meal of our trip. See my dining review in my signature for a review of our meal with pics. JJ

I love love love Jiko! They have a wonderful cheese plate, and I can easily make a meal on the appetizers (the lamb rolls are mmmmm and there is a new appetizer...samosa I think...that is often). For meals, the fish (halibut I think) with the orange sauce is the best thing ever, and the lemon curd is my all time favorite dessert.

Just piling on the Jiko love, one of our favorites: the food, the atmosphere, the wine, keeps us coming back every trip. Enjoy.

Love Jiko! I'm going to dine here in October for the 3rd time. It really is a nice atmosphere and the service is some of the best.

Jiko's is outstanding. The filet with the red wine sauce over the mac'n cheese is out of this world.

I would have to agree 100% w/ this report; we were AKL guests and dropped DD off at Simba's Cubhouse and we had a lovely dinner. Best filet on property, we think! :thumbsup2

I think Jiko is lovely! I'm not really big on my food, Im trying but my appetite fails me most of the time. But honestly I think I ate more at Jiko in one night that I did the whole entire trip last year.

Firstly our server was lovely, she explained the main menu very well and brought the vegetarian menu for me (even though I occasionally eat fish), which I was very impressed by. The atmosphere in the restaurant was also very laid back and there was a nice feel to the place.

We started with the taste of Africa to share which was very nice, something light to begin the meal. I believe for the entree I had the ahi tuna, my sister had the chicken and my mum the lamb. My sister is quite picky but even she liked this chicken. I believe we then got a dessert to share, it was something white chocolate with maybe passionfruit. I really don't remember, but I do remember we finished it so it must have been good.

The evening also ended really nicely, we went outside the hotel to a viewing area and met a lovely member of staff who had binoculars to look at all the animals! So that being said I'd definitely recommend Jiko - can't wait to go back in a few weeks.
