DW and I will be going to dinner for the first time on Christmas Day. I was wondering if anyone has menu recommendations.

We both enjoy trying new wines (DW likes both white and red, I'm partial to red), so wine recommendations would also be greatly appreciated! :D

Thank you and Happy Holidays!

For wines I'd let the server recommend, based upon what you order. Most of the servers at Jiko are well versed in their excellent collection of wines from S. Africa. It's how Mrs. Uncleromulus always does wine at Jiko.
Food-wise you can't miss with their Filet w/ macaroni and cheese, or the Berbre braised Lamb Shank.

If you enjoy good cheese, the appetizer of goat and sheep selections is yummy and would be fun to share. I was pleased with my filet but I was stuffed so I had sorbet for dessert. I love the icey lightness of it! I also went with recommendations from my server for wine.

Enjoy!

When I did the culinar tour of Africa, the chef made me the "taste of Africa" appetizer and it was fantastic. His recommendation for a main course was the monkfish.

I enjoyed the black olive flatbread and the monkfish. I also enjoyed the zebratini! :earboy2:

our favorites:
Oak-Grilled Filet Mignon, with macaroni and cheese and red wine sauce

Tanzanian Chocolate Candies, dark chocolate filled beggar's purses with two sauces Purple Hibiscus and white chocolate-orange "Van der hum"

Food - The Monkfish I had was without a doubt the single best dish I have ever had.

Wine - Get a Pinotage, I had my first at Jiko, now I have to go out of my way to find that variety in stores around here.

Two words: Monkfish, Pinotage - remember them well. :)

I agree with everything Uncle Romulus says. In fact, the servers at all the high end restaurants we've been to have made excellent pairings.

We have not had anything that wasn't wonderful at Jiko.

The taste of Africa appetizer platter..huge..lol. We love the hummus and also the spring rolls with banana salsa.

As far as entrees..the filet, the monkfish, the chicken..all fantastic.

Desserts..lol, always fantastic..including the zebratini.
