Jiko or Narcoossee's

I am planning a trip to WDW and I will be in AK for the whole day and were deciding on a restaurant of Jiko or Narcoossee's. Which restaurant is better Atmosphere and Fun?

I believe it is 2 points on the DDP.

Jiko is an excellent restaurant serving many authentic African prepared dishes such as fish in banana leaves. They have quite a selection and I do not think that you would be disappointed there at all. It's quite an "upscale" restaurant. Service is excellent and the food is wonderful. Have a pot of expressed tea with your dessert and treat yourself!

I've (finally) eaten at both and have to say that both have good food, but Jiko is our favorite; no doubt. I'm confused by your question about which is more "fun" though. While we enjoyed both restaurants and had fun I wouldn't call either a "fun" restaurant as compaired to Whispering Canyon, Chef Mickey's, Prime Time 50s, etc. Neither is particularly geared toward a fun family dinner. Both are finer dining expiriences where appropriate behavior is expected, not fun goofy behavior

I would dine at Jiko. Jiko's a very nice restaurant, with wonderful atmosphere, and great food. After V&A, IMHO it's the best restaurant on property.

JIKO, no comparison! I guess everyone's idea a fun is different! I find Jiko fun because the food is so good!

Jiko - We ate there last week and it was awesome. The food was great and the service was wonderful. I highly recommend it. We went to Narcoossee's earlier this year and didn't enjoy it very much.

What is the dress code for Jiko? Would jeans and a button down shirt with tennis shoes be ok? We are leaving tomorrow and have ressies here next week. Never been there, any recommendations?

As long as your jeans are presentable, there shouldn't be a problem. I believe they're looking to eliminate the cutoffs and tank tops. Have a great meal.

I couldn't agree more with this post. Jiko is second best to V&A IMO.

You will see everything from people right out of the park (earlier in the evening) to Disney Execs. DH usually wears khakis but there were plenty of jeans there as well.
If you are a beef lover the DH & friends love the short rib......I actually think it is one of their signature dishes. The artichoke flatbread is delicious!

This might be too late as the OP could have already dined there, but that should be fine. We were there on 12/29 with business casual dress, but I did see others in shorts, jeans and I think one guy even had camo shorts..

I'll also second the Beef short-ribs. I had them the other night and it was great! We didn't exactly order the best wine for beef (warwick sav?), but that was ok as it was great with the cheese.

As for Jiko vs Narcoossee's: If you're already going to Jiko I wouldn't break your neck to try and hit Narc instead. (if it's a toss up - if not hit both!) But on the same note I wouldn't say that Jiko was overwhelmingly better. It certainly had a unique menu and the south African wine selection was a big plus.

We went to Narcoossee's back in September and it was also very good. I wasn't too thrilled with the atmosphere in the entrance and the buzzer/pager they give you, but the food made up for that.

We would definitely go back to both.

Ooooo, hard choice but I would have to go with Jiko. Other than one bad service experience, it has always been the tops for us. We go at least once a month. My only problem there is deciding whether to go with an entree or making my own selection of appetizers. Narcooses is wonderful, but Jiko is EXCELLENT.

we tried narcoose's in oct, & found it just a bit above average . service was rather inattentive for what is considered a finer restaurant (glasses not filled until repeatedly requested, completed course dishes left on table for extended time), appy's were OK ~ nothing special (i love unusual cheeses & found the cheese plate pedestrian), as were the entrees (my filet minon was simply that, no interesting marinade or sauce to make it distinctive, lobster was, again, just lobster).
YOMD cheesecake was beautifully presented, but not distinctive otherwise.
we did enjoy the decor, lay out, & location of the restaurant, tho.

not a bad experience, by any means, but certainly not what we would expect out of a better restaurant. my vote would be Jiko
