Jiko fans-what's good?

EVERYTHING! Seriously, we shared two appetizers (taste of Africa and the cheese selection) both were sooooo good! I had a shrimp meal (that is no longer on the menu) and it was amazing. The rest of the table had the short ribs and everyone said it was the best they'd ever had. Service was excellent! This was probably the best meal I've ever had at WDW and well worth every penny.

I love the BBQ chicken flatbread for a starter. They used to offer a tasty corn chowder, but it is no longer available. The Savannah rolls on the menu were just so-so, underseasoned and bland.

The maize seared halibut is great-it is a lighter dish. This October I had the braised short ribs-these were some decadent beauties. The bbq sauce was not over powering with sweetness and the meat was so tender.

The lemon curd dessert is nice alternative for a chocolate lover, but the pistachio creme brulee is my favorite.

I have never had a bad meal there and everything I have tried has been great. But, the filet with mac and cheese is my favorite.

We have eaten at Jiko many times. IMO, the appetizers are the star at this restaurant. They are all excellent. The flatbreads are all good, the Taste of Africa is great and they will do a sampler platter of the other appetizers if you can eat that much (or have 4 adults).

None of the salads have been stellar but the soups are always excellent. The soups are reason enough to go to Jiko.

Out of the entrees, I probably enjoy the filet with mac/cheese the best but it's not been a consistent dish. Sometimes its great and other times it's good. I have had the short ribs once and thought they were good. I thought the chicken was okay. I have had fish here 3 times and have never been happy with it. It's not bad but I can get better fish dishes at other places.

None of the desserts have made me want to have them a second time. Maybe I'm always too full from appetizers and soup to enjoy them. :rotfl:

The Swahili Curry Shrimp wasn't an entree so much as an experience. It had a ton of different ingredients in it (shrimp, peas, tomatoes, artichoke hearts, coconut rice, I forget what else) each spiced differently, and so any one ingredient or combination of different ingredients gave a different flavor experience. They were all so very different yet any combination of any number of ingredients tasted beautiful together. It may be the most interesting meal I've ever had in my life.

My husband had the vegetarian dish (seared maize cake over roast vegetables with piquillo pepper sauce) and it was so good he called the manager over to thank her for taking vegetarian dining seriously. (Although if you don't like corn, which I don't, you won't like it.)

He had the creme brulee and I had the Meyer lemon curd and they were both excellent.

The flatbreads are excellent (love the kalamata olive with goat cheese as well as the BBQ chicken with jicama apple slaw). Unlike Pakey, I have had excellent fish dishes at Jiko. In fact, I almost always choose fish when we dine there. Their halibut is wonderful. I have had the filet with macaroni and cheese, and although the filet was perfectly prepared I just thought the dish was way too salty and I just did not like the combination of the mac and cheese with the wine reduction...weird in my opinion. For dessert, the pistachio creme brulee is wonderful. DS had lavender ice cream there once(I am unsure if it is on the menu any more) and it was heavenly.

There are lots of choices! Last week I had the lamb loin, which was superb, but had order-envy for my girlfriend's maize-crusted wreck fish (that night it was Florida grouper) when I tasted it. I had the squash soup to start, and it was outstanding. My girlfriend loved her Tibs Watts (beef filled crepes). The desserts were also good, though I'd say not essential. One of the best meals of our trip.

absolutely love the beef short ribs.

The taste of africa is also amazing, although its a little spicier than it used to be so if you can't handle a little hot you might want to avoid.

Trying Jiko for the first time, what's good?

Yes! :rotfl2:

I like the maize crusted fish, the short ribs and the filet. I also recommend the black olive flatbread for an app.

Filet with mac n cheese.:thumbsup2
.

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2
That's my favorite.

Add an app of the black olive flatbread and get a reccomendation for a nice wine to go with it, and you got a top disney meal.

I've eaten there a few times (2-4) and everything I've had is fantastic. The best though, hands down, is the filet with the "mac and cheese" mentioned by a few other posters as well. Holy cow, it's just amazing.

I've eaten here several times and always been delighted. In October I had the hicken flatbread appetizer which I loved. I had the filet and mac and cheese and it was wonderful, as usual. DH had the beef short ribs and he said it was outstanding. DS loved the ostrich appetizer.
You can't go wrong at Jiko

MAC AND CHEESE!!!

I tried replicating this at home since the recipe is on allears, but no luck...I don't have that Disney touch I guess!

Also the Lavender Ice cream...so refreshing after a great meal!

My wife loves the short ribs and I always have the Grilled Berkshire Pork Loin. As an appetizer, we enjoy the Kalamata Olive Flatbread.

The Kalamata Olive Flatbread was very good. I had the filet w/mac & cheese..I didn't enjoy it that much. I didn't like the mac & cheese at all. I would like to go back and try a different entree.
