Hi,

Hubby, kids and I will be spending Thanksgiving week back east.

Just wondering if anyone has experience getting from JFK to the Allentown, PA area. Are trains available? We won't fly. We could rent a car.

Also, we will be spending a day or two in Brooklyn at the beginng and/or end of our week.

Any advice??

Thank you, Susan

We are from the Northeast area of PA and a rental car would be your best bet. You are probably about 2-2 1/2 hours away from Allentown from JFK. Maybe less depending on traffic etc...:D

Rent a car, be prepared for "sticker shock", rates won't be like MCO.

You might consider flying into Newark.

Thank you for the quick responses. We were planning on renting a car...just thought a train would be fun for the kiddos.

We already have purchased our tickets to JFK b/c best fare, ect.

Is a train even an option??

Susan

Not really. You could take airtrain--LIRR---PennStation--Lancaster but you'd still be more than 60 miles from Allentown. If you didn't have a car you'd probably take a bus.

Thank you Lewisc

I did a google search and found some bus lines that go from either JFK or Port Authority bus terminal to Allentown, Bethlehem area.

Our final destination is Emmaus.

We did look into flying into ABE, but it was just too expensive. We were lucky to get 1 ticket for only $180 LAX to NYC and the other 3 for $200.

I think renting a car will be our best option, but what a problem parking in Brooklyn and Manhattan! Maybe we only will rent for part of the week.

Thanks to all for your advice, and I would welcome any further advice.....

Transbridge runs bus service between the Lehigh Valley and NYC. My neighbor takes it to work each day. There are various pick-up locations throughout the Lehigh Valley, including one on Hamilton Blvd. in Allentown, near I-78/Dorney Park. It's probably best to check routes and stops, as there may be express buses that would be less frustrating to ride. I believe they also do a bus route to JFK, but I don't know much about it.

We used JFK twice as an airport and used an airport limo service each time. 5 years ago it might have been about $300 round trip. There are quite a few limo services around here that do runs to JFK, so it might be best to call and cost compare. I think the time to get to the airport was closer to 2 1/2 hours. It depends on the time of day.

HTH!
