I'm thinking of buying some jewellery when we stop at Kusadasi but I know that this can be a hit & miss experience.

I also know that Disney will do a seminar with recommended jewellers prior to docking. Are these reliable recommendations and do they offer a guarantee at all? Has anyone done this and been happy with the product/price?

There may or may not be a jeweler recommended at your destination. For example, on the recent EBTA, there was one store recommended in all Barcelona. That said, you may be left to your own devices to find a reliable local jeweler. In which case, talk to your fellow cruisers for their suggestions. They are a great source of information!

As for recommended shops, once you get your port map, I suggest you do your own due diligence. Search for third party reviews online before you make any sizable purchases. The shopping guarantee is really only as good as the participating shops, if you are in a depressed area, I wouldn't put all my trust in them.

If you know what to look for beware Use a Jeweler at home that you trust

Try some guide books and look in the shopping section. You can reliable names there.

I didn't buy any jewelry in Kusadasi but in the small town of Sirince there was a guy whose cousin made the jewelry for the movie Troy...I could kick myself for not buying some of the stuff in that store. My husband kept saying that he was probably lying (he said he had pieces from the movie and they were gorgeous -he had pictures from the movie with the cast wearing the jewelry etc.) so I left w/o any but after I got back to the states I did some research and from what I read online from a few travel sites the guy is legit. Plus the town of Sirince was AMAZING....definitely one of my favorite places we visited, and the food was insane. I also had my coffee read by a Turkish coffee reader (well...he was selling wine but had learned the art and had the "gift" passed down to him) - wonderful experience. Highly recommend going on the excursion that takes you to Sirince.
