Agreed, but I am not as smug about it as some. I have made mistakes in my life. Thankfully they were not caught on video and broadcast nationally.

It makes the organization look bad- and if they don't fire him it will make them look worse.

I don't think he should be fired for this. I've seen much worse behavior from coaches and/or players and all they get is a fine and/or suspension.

I'm just thinking in terms of "camera-gate" with the Patriots. Belichick got fined $500,000 and they lost their first-round draft pick for doing something that was definitely sleazy, but that many other organizations in the NFL do as well (they just got caught/ratted out). I just think deliberately tripping a player from an opposing team is really low and stupid (with cameras everywhere, how could he not get caught?), and there should be a heavy penalty. The player could have gotten really hurt.

I will be horrified if this guy isn't fired. He clearly does not possess the judgment, self-control, and sense of sportsmanship one needs to represent an NFL team.

I know plenty of dirty stuff happens every day and most of it isn't caught on video. But if you DO happen to catch it, it needs to be swiftly and severely punished.

What kind of message does keeping him send? To the fans? To the players? To anyone else contemplating playing a little dirty?

He could have ended that kid's career, not to mention left him with a life of pain, disability, and medical bills. Carroll signed on to take hits on the field within the rules of the NFL. He never agreed to have to watch out for the sideline as well.

That's fine, you're entitled to your opinion. I'm just telling you that I've seen much worse behavior from players and coahces (stuff that has been captured on video) and those people only received a heavy fine and/or suspension.

If you've been following the NFL you would know that players have been getting fined 50k for head hunting. I consider that to be a much more serious rules violation than what the coach did here.

Maybe he gets fired, maybe he doesn't. I don't think he should. He made a mistake and I'm pretty sure he learned from it and won't do it again. Guy doesn't have any history of trouble making and should be given a break.

I know that you are not equating this to drunk driving, but come on.

I already said that he deserves to be punished, and I have no sympathy for him if he gets fired, but this is not as big a deal as some posters are making it out to be. If you knew the kind of stuff that goes on on every play, especially at the bottom of piles, you might have a slightly different perspective. But this was caught on camera, so this guy is going to get slammed.

I understand what you're saying but I believe this coach deserves another shot. He'll learn from this incident.

If you knew the kind of stuff that goes on on every play, especially at the bottom of piles, you might have a slightly different perspective.

Now there is one place I would not want to be! I caught this thing on the NFL network this summer where they were profiling this player from the 70's (I believe he was a Raider, but I can't recall clearly) who made no bones about the fact that he would bite in the pile! Yikes!

Anyway, I get what you're saying, but I'm a bit more Quixotic about the whole thing. If there can't be some honor in the game, we might as well be watching a gang fight with ball. I know plenty of dirty play happens and it doesn't all get caught, but when it does get caught, I do think it should be treated as the biggest of big deals.

I don't think he should be fired,,,,not unless you're going to fire every tackle that leads with a helment. Both are concious efforts to hurt a player. The players get a fine and maybe a suspension, while what the trainer did was in poor taste and possibly harmful, it's no more harmful than what a player in full pads and helmet can do against another player when he aims for a head shot and you can't tell me that the players don't do that on purpose.

If you fire the coach then you better stop defending your players and make them aware that actions that could injure players is not acceptable.

It was definitely a no-class idiotic thing to do, but I don't know if it's worthy of firing. If he were a key member of the coaching staff, I think he'd be safe, but as a trainer/conditioner I think he's likely toast as an "expendable".

I also don't even think the dude meant to trip him. He didn't stick his foot out, he stuck his knee out and made contact with the side of the player's lower thigh. The player was running way out of bounds and it appears to me that the idiot saw an opportunity to get in a "undetected" cheap-shot on the opposing player. He miscalculated what would happen next. The hit caused the fast moving player's leg to flex to the left and then his foot came down off-center and he face-planted. It was a stupid stunt to pull, and it could have resulted in a season or career-ending injury... but I don't think that was what the Jets staffer had in mind.
