What a terrible month for aviation! BEtween the sleeping air traffic controller, the hole tearing open in the Southwest flight and the small crash in NC...

But last night at JFK an Air France A-380 (the jumbo mega sized jet) clipped the tail of a Comair Delta regional jet with it's massive wing, spinning the smaller jet around 90 degrees. Thankfully no injuries, but holy shmolies!

I think this reporter needs to go back to geometry class-that wasn't a 90 degree spin :lmao::lmao:

Seriously though-YIKES!!!

There's been talk that these jumbo jets are too large for US airports to handle (no US carriers currently fly them) and this would be a good example.

I'm glad no one was hurt, and how scary for the people in the small plane! :scared1:

It looked pretty close to 90 to me. What do you think it looked like? 78 or 80? Just curious as to why you don't think it was 90 degrees.

Looked pretty much like a 90 degree turn to me too! 1/4 of a 360 is 90.

This is a great reminder for all of those people who feel the need to unbuckle their seatbelt as soon as the plane lands to keep it bucked until you're parked at the gate and the fasten seatbelt sign is off.

It looked more like 45degrees to me--not that it really matters-it was a joke people, lighten up.

If it makes you feel better, I'm fairly certain the reporter on the Today Show said 180 degrees.

It looked like 90 to me (the plane starts out facing the bottom of the screen, gets hit and winds up facing the right side of the screen. 90 degrees)...I'll be the first to admit that math is not my strong suit but geez. How about we split the difference and call it a 65 degree spin?

+1 (on both sentiments)

Now that we've critiqued everyone's math skills, can I weigh in and say it wasn't really a "collision?":rotfl:

When I saw the title of the thread I thought there had been a fiery crash - that's what the word collision brings to mind when I read it in the context of two planes making contact. I was so glad to see it was "just" a wing clip.

A post on a website dedicated to frequent flyers said that the two pilots had to get out of their airplanes and exchange insurance information before they could continue on.

We could critique whether it was a "collision" or not if you want us to :lmao:

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Seriously, thank goodness it wasn't more serious.

Someone can critique my overuse of the word "serious" if they'd like.;)

S'not a big deal...those scratches will buff right out.

Just got to see the video - I'd say 90 degrees is a fairly accurate description.
