First time flying JB next week and went with the blue basic option. That means unless I pre pay for my seat I have to wait until a day before my departure and then there is no additional charge. How is it at that 24 hour mark? Can I compare it to trying for a BG on ROTR to get a good seat, lol? Has anyone had the same setup and if so what was your result? I know that the middle seat is blocked out right now so I'm not worried about spacing, just hoping our group can sit together.

Anyone? 150 views and nothing?

If it’s important to sit together, especially if you have young children pay. If you are willing to play Russian Roulette and be separated possibly go for it! If you don’t pay and are separated don’t ask those who paid for seats to move. Might sound nasty but it’s reality. If going to MCO lots of families and nobody wants to be separated.

I do not have kids so we dont have to sit together nor will I ask people to move so we could be accomodated. I am only asking what the check in process is like since this will be my very first time flying JB and I just want to know what to expect. Are all the seats up for grabs? I usually fly SW and their check in at 24 hrs is a pain to get even a high numbered A group.

Not a free for all. You can go online and select your seat from what's left, any time 24 hours or less before departure. This information wasn't provided during the booking procedure? Strange.

I have never flown JB but I will assume the process is very similar to Frontier airlines. If it's important to sit together, then you should pay for seats. Here is another idea based on my experience. Just babysit the seating chart every few days to see what is still available. When the you notice seats being taken, then choose and pay for your seats. If you are ok with what is left up to the 24 hour mark, then choose seats for free. Everyone in my family likes window seats. So I book our seats one behind each other. Sometimes all on the same side, sometimes a few on one side of the plane and a few on the other side. Rarely do we sit side by side anymore. I think for the most part everyone likes to look out the window when taking off and landing. It's part of the experience. I don't have small children anymore. So it works for us. Good luck!!!

Maybe I wasnt being clear. I just want to know if I should be ready to check in right at the 24 hour mark just like SW. Will I have the ability to pick any seat? Even the more expensive ones closer to the front? Right now it doesnt matter with JB because the middle seats are blocked. I do not have to sit together. Again virgin JB flyer here.

you should be ready to check in at 24 hour mark. I’m sure they will still have seats blocked off for paid upgrades so it’s unlikely you’ll be able to pick the more expensive ones up front. You will likely be stuck towards the middle or Back of the plane.

@starry_solo is right. You will not be able to just choose the Extra seats. You should be able to pay to upgrade while checking in. There's no discount. If any of those seats remain empty after everyone boards, you would still need to pay the full upgrade price.

I would expect to need to start trying for seats at exactly 24 hours.
