Has any one had any luck switching departure airports (for free) after JetBlue has changed the flight time? I know you can ask for a different flight but I would like to ask for a different airport the day before as well as a different flight

For our December trip we are flying out of Boston but back to Portland Maine both due to a cheaper price when we booked and also due to the schedule. Well JetBlue changed the the departure time out of Boston to over an an hour earlier than when we originally booked. We would now have to leave our house at 2:00-2:30 AM in order to get to Boston on time.

JetBlue has a late afternoon direct flight out of Portland the day before in the afternoon. It is about 16 hours earlier than the flight we are currently scheduled on out of Boston.

Is there any chance that JetBlue would allow us to change to the Portland flight or will they only let us select a different Boston flight?

I don't have experience with JetBlue time changes. We usually fly them out of Portland and they rarely change the flight times. Not sure how flexible they are with flying out of a different airport or the afternoon before the original flight.

They might let you change airports...but the only way to be sure is to call them. Don't 'accept' the changes until you talk to them. Since it's a change of airport, they may still charge you the change fee.

I have a different JetBlue fact pattern, but it's worth mentioning:

A few years ago we were going to Florida for a Disney Cruise Line vacation. I wanted to fly down the day before the cruise. We planned on renting a car and driving to the port (and not pay Disney for transfers). When I checked the airfare to Orlando and it was quite high. So I decided to fly into Jacksonville. Car rental was cheaper there - and between both cost savings I was able to justify it (DW thought it was nuts, but thats another story).

Well, the day of the flight, while I was still home (I had not left for the airport yet) I checked the flight status online and saw my flight was cancelled! Yikes! You dont want to see cancelled flight before a cruise - cause if you miss the boat... well, you miss the boat.

I called the JetBlue 800# and they told me they put me on a much later flight to Jacksonville. I calmly asked if they could fly me into Orlando instead - and they agreed. No problem or hassle from them what so ever (I did have to pay more for the car rental, but I was pleased as punch that they honored my request and I did not have a 3 hour drive to the port).

That said, I don't know know if your circumstance would warrant them to be so 'generous' - then again, I still think they are the one airline that has some semblance of customer service... so give it a shot.

Possibly, but you are really asking for two different things, a change in airport and change in departure day. JetBlue is very reasonable though and I have a feeling they will honor your request.

Thanks everyone. I'm going to try calling them at some point next week. I will report back what happens and will let you know.

I do feel like I am asking for a lot -- switching airports and switching to the day before although it is within a 24 hour time period.

But on the other hand the flight out of Portland is less full than the flights out of Boston so it might be advantageous to them to let me switch. :)

I wouldn't wait. I'd call now. You never know - the could readjust the Boston flight back to the original schedule!

I agree, I wouldn't wait. Also if the Portland flights are more full you may have less chance of them letting you make the change. Good luck!
