JetBlue Row #3

For safety reasons, we always treat airplanes like we do cars. We don't give our kids the option of undoing seatbelts (except for bathroom breaks on planes of course). I agree that you need to find toys your DS can play with while in his seat. That said, the front row is a great choice because your DS couldn't kick the seat in front of him (accidentally or intentionally).

This! Completely agree. My kids don't even ask to take their seat belts off. They stay entertained with toys/activities in their seat!

I am always amazed at people who lay their kids (and babies) on the floor during flights so they can sleep. Im even more amazed at the arguments and protests I receive when I ask them to buckle their kids in during turbulence....hello you have a seatbelt on don't you think your child (flying object!!!) should have one on. Its not going to kill them to wake them up but it may kill them as they hit the overhead bin during clear air turbulence. (believe me Ive seen a child seriously injured during turbulence) Don't even get me started on the cleanliness issues... Don't even get me started on the "mother"who placed their newborn baby on a blanket underneath the seat in front of them!!!!!!!
If your child wants to play cars, a solution I found when my child was a toddler was a large box (like a dozen donut box from grocery stores) It will fold flat in your carryon, has sides to stop cars rolling away and you can even draw roads on the base of it.

I personally can not believe airlines still allow lap babies. So unsafe.

One would think...but. I was on the train from Providence RI to NYC a few years ago. A young couple boarded the train in Ct. They had a young child, under a year, with them. He had on a uniform. Well, there were some issues on the train and we all got to talking. This couple was seated right behind us. I asked where he was headed. He said he had gotten a last minute call to fly from Newark to somewhere..can't remember where. Turns out he was a commercial pilot. We got to talking about flying. I asked him how he and his wife felt about people flying with lap babies. Well...his wife was a FA before she had their young dd. They both said they flew with her as a lap baby all the time, and that it's perfectly safe!!! Are you kidding me?? I said but what about sudden turbulence. Oh, that doesn't happen all that often, they said.
I was completely shocked. I mean, seriously, it's okay to fly with an infant or toddler in your lap, but it's not okay to try to get to restroom if the seatbelt sign is on??
There is no way I would fly with any child of any age that wasn't secured in their seat. Babies are more comfortable that way, so are the parents. They should be used to the car seat from riding in the car.

It only took one flight across from a single mom and lap baby with LOTS of turbulence when I was younger to know how scary that is. She had a death grip on her baby and was crying in fear. It is such a vivid memory of my teens. I will never forget it.

My kid is not worth that gamble, period. Who cares if it doesn't happen often. Either do car accidents but we still put kids in carseats every time. I am not sure of the difference??

Is the bulkhead row available (row 1)? My little one was a bit younger than yours when we went on this trip, but having the space was quite nice:

I guess this should be captioned,'living Dangerously' given some of the previous advice on this thread. :rotfl:

Your experience seems to be unusual - and doesn't even come close to being available on the flight the OP has booked ! This much space would be in first or business class and Jet Blue doesn't offer either.
