DM and I are planning on doing the princess 1/2 marathon in March. I was looking at airfare as we don't want to drive 14 hours one way for a 3 day trip:headache: KWIM Anywhoo... we haven't flown to WDW in over 16 years, and I don't really remember flying as I was only 5 or 6 when we flew the last time. I found flights from Richmond which is about a 2 hour drive from us with jetblue direct flight for $165pp or Delta $215pp from lynchburg (10 minutes from home) with 1 stop in atlanta. Part of me says it would be nice to fly so close to home, but it would be REALLY nice to not have a layover.

For any of you who have from Jetblue what are your thought on the airline. Also, as we have never flown out of richmond, for any of you who have flown from richmond, what are your thought on the airport. We normally fly of north carolina, but all the flight from there have layovers and are the same price as lynchburg if not much more.

Thanks for the help!!!

I really like JetBlue. The planes are in nice condition, and all of the seats have their own seatback TVs with DirectTV programming. They also allow everyone 1 free checked bag.

I also like the Richmond airport. We have flown in and out of it numerous times, and I find it to be very manageable. The parking rates are also pretty decent for economy parking ($7/day?). Keep in mind, though, that I usually fly out of enormous, big-city airports, so I might be jaded in my evaluation of RIC.

If you haven't flown out of Richmond in a long time then you're in for a surprise. They've done a complete remodel including adding on. I like the new set up. The terminals are larger and they have one or two more food options. I'm flying Jet Blue for the first time next week. I hear nothing but good things from them from co-workers that travel with them for business. I typically fly Delta or Air Tran, but Jet Blue had the better flight times this go around.

Personally, if it were me - I'd take flying closer to home with a lay over. I'm tired when I get back and just ready to get home as soon as I can. A two hour drive post-trip doesn't sound appealing.

*Don't forget to check out Air Tran from Richmond - they are usually very good on price with a non-stop in the morning to Disney and a non-stop late night on the way back.

Thanks for your Responce!!! The 1 free checked bag is definetly a plus considering most are charging for the first checked. We are used to paying 10-12 dollars a day parking out of NC so $7 sounds excellent. Dh also has family in Richmond that would probubly be willing to drop us at the airport which would definetly be a plus.[/COLOR]

I don't think I've ever flown out of richmond, at least not that I remember. My hairdresser always does jetblue out of charlotte and she is always pleased however the price for our dates are over $300pp round trip. I weighing the fact of having to drive home after flying however since we normally have a several hour drive home if wouldn't be any difference from anyother flights we've had.

If you don't mind, could you let me know how your experiences go next week? Thanks:goodvibes

We always fly out of Richmond direct to Orlando. Past two trips have been with Jetblue (as is our next scheduled trip in Dec.)

We have really enjoyed Jetblue and love having the first bag free. (We like to check as much as possible especially w/ Magical Express). We have always had great rates with JetBlue and if the price drops on any leg of your flight you can get a credit for future travel. Plus, we have had great rates with them. In Dec, we have direct flights down and back for $140. ($69.90 each way incl. taxes). The only downside is that there is only one direct flight per day so your tied to their schedule on that - but we'll take that over having to change planes.

We also really like the Richmond airport. Very easy to navigate. Economy parking is very easy and the shuttle is pretty efficent. It is also a very short walk into the terminal to check bags. Security has never been busy when we have flown (morning or mid-day). We are a little closer to the Charlottesville airport (45min) but elect to drive the extra 30 minutes to Richmond for the direct flight and full size jet plane.

If you have any specific questions, let me know.
