We booked NY to MCO for mid-april with Jetblue and we got $90 down to MCO. The return flight from MCO to NY airport is $379, and the plane is empty. I know the prices will probably go down but just wondering why the flights down seem so much less then the return. Any ideas? Hope the return flights go down real soon.

They will fluctuate. Just keep a close eye. Is the return over Easter? Then you might be in for a higher than average flight, but it shouldn't stay that high. Just make sure you watch every day and sign up for their emails so that you are alerted when there are sales.

It's strange because the flight going down is on April 5th and the return would be April 12, 13, 14th or 15th. We are open, so actually the return is further away from Easter. I am checking daily, thanks.

Try jetblue going down, and Spirit coming home

Difficult solution considering they don't share any NY area airports. Would have to fly out of one and into another.

;)That is why I asked what airport. There were lots of cheap flights on those dates for the NYC area. Have a feeling that they are flying from Upstate.

False. LaGuardia is serviced by both.

Sorry did not know Spirit flew from LGA, but, in my defense, they don't fly non stop to MCO.

I will accept my flogging now.

No flogging necessary. I don't know why anyone, other than a business traveler, would ever fly Spirit Air.

I fly into Fort Myers almost every April school vacation (from Boston) and run into the same problem. Last year things were so bad that I ended up flying down and renting a car and driving back. (I tried to fly out of Ft. Myers, Tampa and Orlando and into Boston, Providence or New York.)

I have been told it is because all the "snow birds" are heading back north, therefore it is easier to get flights down than back.

Most business travelers would not fly Spirit. Business travelers generally fly the legacy airlines for the elite perks - first class upgrades, extra miles, international destinations, in flight entertainment, free bags if elite. Some of Spirit's planes only have a 29" seat pitch (distance between seats), which is very cramped.
