We did a week in Orlando and a week on Sanibel. We needed the second week to recuperate!

I will no doubt ruffle some feathers here with my Back to DIS Report, but in my defence I am 47, my DH and I went without kids, and I am not a fan of rollercoasters. But I did go with a view to having fun. And I have to say that overall, given unlimited dollars and imagination, DisneyWorld is proof that anything is possible.

Our first day was "offsite" at SeaWorld, which I thought was fantastic. The awesome power of Shamu really took my breath away.

Our second day was at the Magic Kingdom, which *ducking* I found very disappointing. I don't think I was prepared for the treck to get there, and the heat was oppressive, so perhaps I wasn't in the best of moods when I arrived. But, sad to say, the magic didn't happen for me. We spent the day there and left after the parade, by which time I had melted ... However, in the evening we ate at the Wilderness Lodge - an amazing hotel. SUCH an amazing place, it really takes your breath away when you walk into the lobby.

Our third day was Animal Kingdom, and I was blown away. Although this was manufactured, as they all are of course, it was done so well. Each section was so atmospheric, and the attention to every minute detail was amazing. I loved the Tree of Life, such a clever idea. Not to be missed - the Lion King. For lunch we went to the Rainforest Cafe which I would recommend highly especially for anyone with kids. What an experience ... absolutely fantastic.

On the fourth day, we rested! But in the evening we had PS for the Brown Derby at MGM - the best food we had all week, but not cheap - and then Spectromagic, which was pretty spectacular.

Our fifth day was spent at Disney MGM in the morning, which was quite enjoyable (Universal in California was far better in comparison, which might be unfair) and in the afternoon one of the highlights of our trip for me ... Typhoon Lagoon. What a blast!! Recommended for anyone with stress, the slow-moving river that encircles the park where you glide gently round on a rubber ring ... sublime! And the wave machine was such good fun.

All in all a great time was had by both of us, but - maybe it's because I'm not a fan of adrenalin-rush rides - I have to say that I (personally) don't see the attraction in going back year after year, unless you have kids. There's too much else in the world to see ...... but this is very much IMHO.

Thanks for the report, and glad you had a good time.

What I think is valuable in your report it shows that even without kids and as a "mid life" couple there is a lot that you found very enjoyable. I must admit that MK is possibly my least favourite park (personally I prefer AK as #1) but then it isn't really primarily designed for my(our) age group.MK's "magic" is pretty firmly aimed at the under 10s with a few concessions made for older guests. I still get a lot out of it watching the reacions of small kids though :) . I think Disney does a great job of offeing a pretty wide range of attractions and activities and it is that diversification that makes it out as a world leader in terms of a holiday destination.

Great report :)

I have to agree that I found MK just a bit too busy and overbearing, and preferrred to get my enjoyment from seeing the kids reactions.

Both my mum and I (ours was a girly trip<g>, I am 31, and my mum is far too dignified to allow her age to be repeated on a board<g>), enjoyed getting our fun from the kids we saw.

My favourite moment in MK was watching a maybe 4 or 5 year old run into a shop and give a huge PoohBear toy the biggest hug imaginable - her mum and me exchanged looks that said it all!

Isn't the Brown Derby great? If only every salad could be as nice as that Cobb Salad!

I'm glad that your overall experience was so good :)

I just love the lazy river at Typhoon Lagoon and the one at Blizzard Beach!

What did you think of Sanibel? Did you end up with the "Sanibel Stoop"?

hi Nanoo
Glad to hear of someone who has been to Sanibel as we've just booked.
Arrive Orlando this Saturday 26/07, going on a short break from the parks (2 nights maybe 3) arrive Sanibel Aug 5th.
Staying at Buttonwood Cottages.
Do u know them?
Where did you stay?
Have you any info about the place.
Love to hear from you

Hope you get this before you leave. Sanibel is lovely, a real oasis. I don't know the place you are staying in but from what we saw there didn't seem to be anywhere on the island that wasn't nice. You'll love it, I'm sure. Do some exploring, do go up to Captiva (which is joined to Sanibel by a very short causeway) and walk on the beach if only to see all the fantastic houses that you can't see from the road. I would definitely recommend that you explore Ding Darling nature reserve - go around it first on the organized tour then drive round yourselves and see the sunset from there. There are lots of restaurants on the island, but I would recommend the Jacaranda as the best restaurant (not cheap though). Also good - McT's, Seafood Factory.

Don't forget to get up really early one morning and go shell hunting on the beach!

Have a great holiday - I'd love to hear what you thought about it when you get back (nannoo552002@yahoo.co.uk).
