jet blue questions

We are going to disney for a couple days in september before we leave on a cruise. We have found a flight out of Richmond, VA on Jet blue for 175/pp. First off a warning... I have LOTS of questions lol
-Does Jetblue give refunds or credits if you have to cancel?
-Do they offer trip insurance, and does it allow you to cancel with credit/refund?
-What hidden cost are there?
-Do they participate with DME?
-Can you pick your own seats, or is it like southwest and you have to pay extra to pick, or just grab one when you get on?

I hope all of this makes since. Thanks so much for all of your help! We have only ever flown delta/usair/united. Thanks again!

Also, has anyone ever flown out of Richmond, Va? What did you think about it?

1. Sort of. If you have to cancel, they will charge you either $50 or $100 change fee..depending on what you originally paid for your tickets. Then if anything is left, it goes into a credit with JB you can use at a later date.

2. Not sure. Some airlines do, but since I never buy travel insurance I don't know. I do know that reasons for canceling and getting a refund are very narrow.

3. No hidden costs really that I know of. You get one checked bag free as of right now. You do have to pay for the second bag. And..this is per seat. So if there are 4 of you flying, you get 4 checked bags free.

4. Yes, they do participate in DME.

5. Yes, you get to choose your own seats when booking. JB seats all give a lot of leg room to begin with, but if you want even more legroom you can pay a bit extra and get really roomy seating. I tend to do this for my 6'4" dh.

I love JB.....they are a terrfic airline. I love having a tv right in front of me. It's nice to catch up on the news, or weather. Or watch some favorite shows while in the air. I have always found JB to be very easy to work with. I mainly fly with either JB or SW.

Goofy answered your questions pretty well, so not too much to add.

JB is our favorite airline. They will provide you with a credit if the fare drops between the time you book and the time you fly. You do have to watch it yourself and call them to get it, but that is nice. You have up to 1 year to use it. The only other fees that might apply are if you want to use the tvs and don't bring your own headphones you will want to purchase headphones frmo them for $1. I suggest you bring your own anyway or if you buy theirs do it before you board so you can enjoy the tvs on the ground and not wait until you are in the air. The other would be movies cost $5.

Not sure about their travel insurance, but who ever you do purchase the travel insurance through (I use Access America)..make sure to ask them what the "reasons are for cancelling" and if they give you the cash back or is it a voucher for future travel.

Access America does cash back, but it has to be for a "covered" reason such as illness, injury, sickness, etc... they do offer a cancel for any reason, but it is considerably more $.

A form of insurance, yes. Read the conditions. At one point (after the economy tanked, but when yours truly thought "oh, no, that can't happen to me" and opted not to purchase it, it was specifically for if you lost your job under certain conditions. Now, I think it's been expanded.

Jet blue uses access america. Our biggest concern, is my granny. She is 92 (soon to be 93) and broke her hip a month ago. She isn't recovering as well as we had hoped for. Her dementia has progressed, and she can't walk on her own anymore causing her to have to be in a nursing facility (she lived on her own before). We just never know what will happen with her, and my mom is her primary care giver. We just want to make sure if something happen with her that we have to postpone our trip, we can without losing the 900 dollars for flight.

access america is great! You have to book it within 10 days though to be covered for pre exisiting conditions. If you have a non stop flight you can probably purchase the basic plan. but if you have to make a connection or if you have any members in your party under 18 then you would want the classic plan (because kids under 18 are free). when buying directly from access america that is.
