Can my parents (who are flying Jet Blue for the first time on their first trip to WDW)just bring the booking number (is that what it's called, like an itinerary number?) to the airport on a piece of paper, or do they need some kind of print-out? I made all their reservations for them since they're close to 80 and not computer literate (or WDW aware either!). Jet Blue sent everything to my Email address but of course, it's all in my parents' names. They're insisting I print something out and mail it to them, but my printer won't work, no ink. However, can't I just write all the information down and have them bring that to the airport with them?
As an aside, they've also not wanted to make any dining reservations (even though they go in March). They insist that when they're hungry, they'll find somewhere to eat. Fortunately, they like CS. And Mom doesn't want to "waste time" going to any shows, just do rides all day. Should be one heck of a trip!

For Jetblue out of Portland Maine, I just needed ID ... they never asked for any print out ....

They really don't need anything. You can give them the travel number...then they can give it to the people at the checkin counter. But, even then, they should just be able to bring up their info with their names.

Are they trying to avoid having to wait in line at the airport (other than security, of course)?

Last time I flew Jet Blue, I did online check in at home for my flight to Orlando. For my flight home, the hotel checked me in. I think it might have been the desk you go to for Magical Express.

On another trip, when I got to the airport at Orlando for my flight home, I went to a kiosk and checked in there. It looked like an ATM machine. I can't remember what was needed at the kiosk - maybe the credit card I used to pay for the ticket, or my frequent flyer number.

I only had carry-on bags, so I did not have to wait in any JetBlue lines at the airport this way.

I thought we had to show a printed-out boarding pass when we boarded the plane. And I thought you had to show a boarding pass in order to go through security. But people who have flown more recently than me might say that I'm wrong.

Do they know about the TV screens and headphones? Seems to me you had to buy the headphones on the plane, using a credit card, if you didn't have your own. (In the past, they had bins of them at the gate.)

You can go to Disney World without ADRs, but you don't want to fly on JetBlue without headphones for the TVs.

You do need to show a boarding pass at some point in the security line - there may be someone near the beginning checking IDs and BPs, or it may be someone right up near the machines.

If you check in online, to the best of my knowledge you can still "re"print the boarding pass if you couldn't do it at the computer for some reason; you should also be able to "re"print using those kiosks described by Best Aunt.

You need your boarding pass, but not your ID, to get on the plane.

JetBlue does still have the bins of headphones at the gate; you can purchase them for cash (dropped in a lock-box type setup) inside the terminal, but again, Best Aunt is right - there's no cash handling on the plane. I think the headphones are $2 per pair, or you can bring your own.

For people who are older and never use the computer, the idea of an eTicket is hard to comprehend. They are used to paper tickets that they have to show at the airport. Assure your parents all they will need is their ID. When they check in at the airport they simply tell them their name and hand over their ID. It is that simple. If they want some sort of comfort, have them write down the confirmation code for the flight... It is usually a combination of 6 letters/numbers.

The first time I flew on an eTicket, I must have called the airline a half dozen times to confirm I had a flight with them... it just didn't feel right not having the paper tickets...

I have flown on JetBLue many times and whenever I printed the confirmations I never ended up using the paper. It wouldn't hurt to give your parents the confirmation # for the booking but the only thing your parents will need at the airline counter is a valid proof of ID. If they are staying on property at WDW they can check in for their return flight at the hotel and the hotel will even print their boarding passes.

Sounds like me. I had an awful time actually booking my own flight the first time as well. I just didn't believe I was going to be able to do it correctly!! After all, isn't that what travel agents are for????? :lmao: At least that was my thought.
But now.....I would never consider using a TA for flights. I am an old hand at checking in. Yes, it's a bit nerve wracking of us older folk but once you do it, it's a piece of cake!!!

Just to be clear:

If your parents decide to wait in line at the Jet Blue desk in the airport, they will need proper ID for the ticket agent to issue their boarding passes.

If they want to use a kiosk to check in, they will need ID and the credit card the tickets were charged to. In the larger airports, Jet Blue usually has an agent roaming around who could help them use the kiosk if they need assistance.

In order to clear security, they will need both their ID and their boarding passes. HTH

I think, now that you mention it, that's exactly their problem! They fly down here every Christmas, so they're not unfamiliar with check-in and security. But they've never flown Jet Blue, only Continental, so they probably think that being able to fly without paper tickets is something unique to Continental, not an airline thing these days.
