I have a question about using Jet Blue points. DH and I recently signed up for the Jet Blue Plus Card (the card with the $99 fee). One of the perks of this card is that you get a free checked bag for the first 4 tickets you buy using the credit card - and is the main reason we picked this card, as we'd be checking at least 2 bags each way to FL for a total of $100 in checked bag fees (or the credit card annual fee). Tthe sign up bonus got us to over 40,000 points (yay). So we're thinking of using points to book one or both of our flights for next year, but I'm concerned that if we use points, we won't get the free checked bags.

Here are the possible scenarios I've figured - anyone have any advice on which one is accurate?

1) DH and I have enough points to book both flights using points. We do so, guaranteeing them with the Jet Blue credit card. Does that qualify us for the free checked bags?

2) DH and I have enough points to book one free flight. We do so, using the credit card for the other flight and the credit card to guarantee the flight booked on points. Does that qualify us for free checked bags? Or does only the person booking with the credit card get the free checked bags?

TIA!

1. I just tried a mock booking using points (I have the Plus CC) and it shows I have a free bag under all fares including the cheapest BLUE Fare. It's propbably because you are using the card to pay the taxes so it looks like you can but you might want to call JB to check to be 100% sure.

2. Normally the person booking and up to 3 others get the free bags as long as you are on the same reservation. I am not sure if you can book a points and cash reservation under the same reservation number. If you can I would imagine you both get the free bags. Again you should call to be sure.

Sorry I couldn't help more.

You should be able to get the free bag no matter what. I just got back recently from a flight i booked with points. Now the taxes i paid
with the card ( you have pay those with a card). When i checked in I just showed the Jet Blue card and she waived it through.

I have this JetBlue CC. You are supposed to book like you are not bringing a checked bag (pick the cheapest fare, no luggage), then when you check your bag, you show them you booked the flight with the JetBlue CC and they don't charge you. You and 3 others can get a free checked bag. I do not believe if you are 2 people you can get 2 free bags. I believe it's one bag per paying jetblue flight for the cardholder and 3 others. Must book using the CC also.

As an FYI if you link the JetBlue Plus card to your JB account the lowest fare (Blue) will show that you have a bag included.

I have also been told by JB that if you show them the CC they will check the bag for free if for some reason there is an issue not getting the free bag when you check in.

I always choose the cheapest fare in points (no bags), but pay the fees with my Jet Blue card. It's not free to book with points--always a few bucks per person in taxes, and if you use your Jet Blue card, you get a free bag.

Thank you all - How could I possibly forget about paying taxes on airfare...???

Sounds like if we book our flights with points (cheapest rate available), pay the fees with the credit card, we'll each get our free checked bag - which is exactly what I want :)
