Jersey Week?

I have read in some post about Jersey Week. Some of the comments seem to indicate a slight amount of trepidation. Yo what's up with that? What is Jersey Week and when does it occur. Thanks..Tim..Exit7A

Jersey week is when the public schools in New Jersey have off on Thursday & Friday in November for teacher's convention, or shall we say gambling escapade in AC (if they even go themselves.) Most around hear refer to it as Jersey week. At first I thought it was when people from the island of Jersey (England) all flocked to WDW, because I always thought that we lived in NJ, but who am

All school in NJ are closed for two days (Thurs and Fri) in November for Teacher's convention. My daughter is a teacher and she tells me that every year she has kids that take off that entire week for vacations. And, there's always at least one who goes to WDW. I've never been in November, as DH and I prefer the first week in May, over Mother's Day.

Jersey week starts the week of November 1 this year.

The area we live in closes the schools for the entire week - they close for the two convention dates and they float other holidays that would have been held one at a time (like Columbus Day, Veterans Day, maybe Election Day) so they have a weeks' break. I believe this was first done as a cost-cutting measure, some nonsense about shutting down furnaces and then starting them up again cost more than just shutting them down for a week. We have travelled to WDW during this week, both with or without kids and have had a lot of fun running into people we know and other people who live near us in New Jersey, etc., but I guess it could be annoying to people who aren't from New Jersey.

Why would anyone want to live anywhere except New Jersey? How could we possibly annoy people from other states? We are the most charming, fun-loving, cute and adorable people in the world (with the best senses of humor, hehe)!!!!!
