Jersey Week Nov 2016

We're also heading down to WDW that week! I'm not in NJ, but our schools are closed that Monday (no idea why), Tuesday (Election day) and Friday (Veteran's Day). I'm guessing it will be more crowded than usual, because of the multiple holidays falling during the same week.

I hope everyone is planning to vote early or absentee!

We will be there that week (we are from KY, not NJ). This will be the third year we will be there during "Jersey Week" and I found the crowds to be fine that last two years.

TRUE Weather all around was unseasonably hot this year during fall & winter..I remember XMas eve was like 75* up here in Jersey too...:confused3 GO FIGURE.
Yes, Christmas Eve was just crazy this year - it really didn't feel like christmas because it was so warm! It was so strange to have the AC running in the house on xmas eve and xmas, with all of the cooking!

I think this year that week will be more busy than it usually is. Most of the country has off two days that week - Election Day and Veterans Day. So it will stand out on the calendar as a good week to miss school in many states, not just New Jersey.
I actually think the crowds wont be as bad this week, we will be traveling down on the 6th. I think with free dining starting the following week we could see ligther crowds during "jersey week". This is the 6th year in a row we will be visiting during this week and frankly I'm glad it is not during free dining, we have experienced it both ways and even though free dining was a nice perk I feel the people that free dining draws in makes for a "less relaxing" to put it nicely.

I actually thought this would be the case last year, but I was still surprised with the crowds. But FD also started on 11/8 last year, and this year it starts 11/15, so that is a whole weeks difference. I won't be going in November this year, but I will be curious to see reports to see if this will be the case this year.

Our school system in va have 3 days off that week... So great time to go... 3rd time going around them same time... Crowds should be manageable but maybe a little more crowded than previous

I'm surprised so many people, kids or otherwise, get election day off. I feel like I missed out growing up. In Washington we never had the day off and now the whole state is vote by mail so there wouldn't be a reason. My jr high had a polling station and we were still in school. I went to college in California and lived in NC for 6 years and never heard of election day off in either state, for the schools or otherwise.

I'm running the half and then staying after. Am kind of glad to be somewhere that it will be easy to ignore the media on election day. And I'll mail my ballot in before I leave.

TheNJ teacher convention is on thurs 11/11 and fri 11/12 this year, if that helps. Traditionally it is the first thurs/fri in November. but it is a week later this year.

To be more precise, it's the Thursday and Friday of the first FULL M-F week of November. Since November 1 is a Tuesday this year, the Teacher's Convention follows its routine schedule of being the second Thursday and Friday.

I believe each year an increasing number of NJ schools are giving the entire week off. When I went to school in NJ, we just got the Thurs/Fri off. Sometimes we also got Election Day and Veterans Day off, sometimes not. It depended on when the school year started and how the rest of the calendar fell.

It wasn't always this way. When I was in the NJ schools, does were unlocked, and no one thought twice about using the school gyms as polling places. Now, they cancel school.

We are going during Jersey week (and we are from NJ!).

It's the only time in the fall my brother will let my niece and nephew go, so they don't miss too much school. It'll be their first trip to Disney (last year I took them on a cruise).

The fact that free dining is blacked out that week is a pretty good indication that they have already sold a lot of rooms for that week.

School security has changed quite a bit in the last 10 or 15 years.

We are going Jersey week too (teacher from NJ). My school and my kids' school normally do not get the whole week off, so we are taking advantage! Sure beats going during Xmas or Easter break like we normally do. (although we always get to do everything we want to due to planning...it will be nice to not have to fight the crowds to walk!!) 5 other teachers I work with are also going!

Jersey boy here. My local school district started taking the entire week off as a fall break 2 years ago.

It was kind of crazy before that. Monday school. Tuesday off for Election Day (most years). Wednesday school. Thursday and Friday off for the teacher's convention.

We are considering heading down to WDW during Jersey week (Nov 6)...election day (tues) and veteran's day (fri) fall during the week.

Compared to Aug (which is when we usually) how crowded is this week normally? Worse or less?
Thanks for your question! I'm curious about this as well. We always travel the first week of August, but this year I am taking some days off from work (I'm a teacher in NC) to go during this time. I was nervous about the crowds, especially since it seems like resort locations (only certain rooms were left) and ADRs were not as easy to get as I expected.

We'll be down with my brother and his family for Jersey Week.......planned this mostly due to the NJ Teachers Convention.........so their 2 kids would be off and miss less school. Forgot about Election Day...........not sure Veteran's day will be a big impact as its a Friday. We're doing MK on Monday (all day thru a 5pm Crystal Palace ADR) the MVMCP on Friday the 11th............ The one wildcard is my wife and I are planning a 4 parks/1 day adventure for Wed Nov 9th. Right now we're doing AK-1, HS-2, EP-3, and MK-4.............not sure that is going flow given the 9th is the only full day at MK this week. Would like to flip HS and MK.........but that only works if HS has a fireworks, although we could do Fantasmic :-). The things to worry about right............:D

Doug :goofy:

This will be the first Jersey week I miss in the last 4 years. The F&W has also stretched to include Jersey Week and there the is the F&W Half Marathon the beginning of MVMCP so yes it will be crowded but not Easter or Christmas week crowded. I would venture a guess that levels of 5-7 would be most accurate for the whole week maybe higher closer to the weekend

On Veterans Day, I made sure to stay away from the WDW parks, and used my Universal/IOA ticket that day and that was the best decision I made!

This is my plan too - good to know this worked out for you!

Our school has Tuesday, Thursday and Friday of that week off, one of the days is a teacher "professional development day" and the other two are election day and veterans day. I think the combo of NJ having the entire week off, the half marathon, food and wine extending into mid november means the week will be in the 5-7 range and the weekends will be slammed. I hope Disney staffs accordingly.

We are planning on going November 10th-14th for a short trip to celebrate DH 40th Birthday. We typically go in September or October because we try to always do a Halloween party. We really enjoy Halloween at Disney. We live in Pensacola so we don't have to be too too picky when we go. We were just down there in June and it was moderately crowded. This will be our first November trip so I'm hoping for cooler weather and slighter crowds. We've been during Christmas so I doubt it's gonna compare to that.
