Wow, he was younger than I thought. I can’t say I was a big fan of his shows, but I can’t deny their popularity. He was definitely one of a kind, and never took himself or his shows too seriously. .

Oh, man. We used to watch his show every single day during lunch period in the late 90s. Jerry Springer is a core part of my high school memories.

I had WLWT on doing housework this morning when they broke in to tell the news. John London, who is always a professional, was talking about working with him back in the day. You could tell he was crushed.

I had seen Jerry a couple of times at the airport, and around town (sat at a table across from his at Otto's) and he was always smiling. He was never afraid to make fun of himself, which was part of his charm. RIP, Jerry.

My son flew home from Tampa a few years back and someone mentioned jerry springer was in the flight. My son said he just looked like an old guy.

Also, back when my son was a preschooler, in the early 2000s, there wasn’t school on Fridays. My husband was able to be off on Fridays to look after him. One day I came home and he was chanting “Mary! Mary! Mary!” That’s what he thought they were saying when they chanted Jerry! Jerry! He basically told on my husband because apparently they watched Jerry springer when I was at work.

I always saw him as more of a referee than an instigator . . .

So sad, I saw he died of Pancreatic Cancer, it is such a stealthy killer. Wonder if he was BRCA tested, also wonder if earlier care could have helped him live a little longer. This is one of the cancers we still can't seem to get ahead of even after all this time

That’s very true. Pancreatic cancer is brutal. My grandson was there while we listened to news reports and he asked who even was he? I explained and said he died from cancer. He asked why didn’t he just take the medicine? I told him the medicine doesn’t always help and that kind of cancer is almost always fatal.

I’m glad he didn’t suffer for a long time.

I know someone who died less than a month after diagnosis. She never left the hospital. Once you have symptoms it's already too late.

His talkshow was a regular talkshow at first. The ratings stunk and the producers came up with a new format. He always said his show was trash TV, never made excuses for it.

He did do something better on TV. He was a reporter then a newscaster. It was when Donahue retired in '91 that he was asked to do the talkshow because the same company that ran his Cincinnati station did the talk shows too.
