Jermaine Jackson just swore on CNN

For whatever reason, we are watching the CNN coverage of the arrest of Michael Jackson, and they were interviewing Jermaine via phone. DW just yelled to me (I was in the kitchen) "He can't say that!" I asked what he said and she replied "He just said 'I'm sick and f------ tired of.....' " Can he say that now that the FCC has ruled that it's OK since it wasn't a reference to a physical act? Nice to see how far the USA has "progressed."

I think in the context of news just about anything will be ok if it's part of the story. I don't think Tom Brokaw can say it, but if a newsmaker says it, no problem.

It was pretty obvious he was mad. He started off the conversation in a composed manner, but the more he talked, you could hear his rage growing. I suppose I can see his point, if people were talking about my family in a bad way, I'd probably get mad too - but then again, the freaks in our family keep their freakishness to themselves.;)

The FCC isn't relaxing it's rules, they still stand by the "seven dirty words rule" However in this case this was a semi spur of the moment "live" phone call on CNN and thus there was no phone delay in place to catch a curse world from going out. I personally enjoy these moments because in real life people do actually curse.

Sounds like someone was sleeping on the job!

on tv and radio now if you use it as a verb and not a noun...this was reported over a month ago on Good Morning America.

Actually, you can use it in any part of speech so long as it doesn't refer to the any sexual act.

"What the ...."
"You're a ....... idiot"
"Oh ...."

etc...

Yep, pretty amazing, isn't it?

I do not think OP (nor others here) was 'horrified', but rather was asking if in fact such language was permitted, and if so, it was just sad to hear so.

you can't bleep a live phone call. I agree with Swamp Fox here -

Okay, maybe I need to clarify a few things........
My original post was just a comment about Jermaine Jackson using the F-bomb on live TV. Thought it was funny and wanted to mention it. Something that could have been prevented by the simple use of a 3-5 second delay, a common tool in TV and radio (especially talk radio). CNN chose not to use delay and they got bitten by it. It was funny, life moves on.

Secondly, to clarify JDY's statement, the words can be used as a noun or an adjective, NOT a verb. JDY, please don't think I am slamming you, I just wanted to clarify your earlier statement. :D

Third, for GoldenGate and GailHayden to say that I was more horrified by the language used by Jermaine than the alleged actions of his brother is very uninformed. I had no intention of mentioning Michael. I was only speaking of what Jermaine had done. I am, of course, disgusted by what Michael is said to have done. Even if he didn't do anything, the fact that he put himself in that position given his reputation is appalling in and of itself. I just hope it's not a case of gold-digging parents using their son and Michael's rep to try to hit the Powerball without a ticket if you get my drift..

Lastly, thanks to Dan for sticking up for me. "Little Dan" appreciates it lol :teeth:

No hard feelings to anyone; that's what makes a discussion a "discussion." Now, let's party :bounce: :Pinkbounc

You are correct...actually, I can't think of a way to use the word as a verb without referring to sex. Thank you for the clarification, and no "slam" taken. :D
