Jen's Journal.....Baby Steps to a new me

Hey kim-No problem! You have been there for me especially the last couple weeks and i really appreciate it too ! Hang in there my friend!

The rest of the week went okay--Im getting very stressed and work and i honestly dread going in. They are continuing to put more and more kids in my class...We have about 25 a day, which wouldnt be bad in a normal setting. But were supposed to be more relaxed and care free with these kids, and you cant do that with 25 of them--I think its because both Jess (the other teacher, best friend) and I have been there for 4 years and they know we can handle it , so they are kind of taking advantage of it. Were only in week 3, but i have a feeling i will not be working full time next summer. I have already been thinking about it since i will probably start a "real" teaching job next September.

Okay, enough venting!! This weekend sounds relaxing! I have work today til 4 and then no plans til Sunday..I plan on relaxing and reading a book. Sunday i have a blind date..A friend from PA and her boyfriend and another guy are coming to pick me up and were going to the beach for the day...No clue what to expect, but hopefully itll be fun.

I went to the hospital to see Alex yesterday and couldnt get in. THey said he has had so many visitors (gotta love firemen!) that when he falls asleep, they hold off all visitors. Im very glad hes resting, but i just wanted to see him! Hopefully i will be able to go in sometime tomorrow..Cant wait to see how much he has improved! hes beenwriting notes and smiling and whispering words..Thank you all for your prayers..Its been a really rough 2 weeks (although it seems like SOOOmuch l onger)--its nice having a place to "let it all out!"

On the alex update news---he is TALKING! actual words!!! my dad got to talk to him today and hopefully ill head to the hospital sometime this week, as ill be gone all weekend

This week has been long, but okay..I am coming to terms with work ,and the extra body has been helping..I let myeslf relax this week and have ended up having a lot more fun with the kids..I figured i might as well have fun!! We have been working with the kids and decided to put on our own "high school musical" the kids are constantly listening to that cd and it seems like we are ALWAYS singing the songs. We let the kids pick 3 or 4 songs and we are going to learn all the words and make up a dance for each of them and they will perform it for the school at the end of the summer .

Im getting ready for this weekends DISmeet--Im really excited about getting away for a couple of days! We bought the tickets back in April, so im excited that it is here..

We got some "so-so" news about Alex today. he is having a bad day and is becoming very agitated and frustrated. He is trying to communicate by writing things to my dad and others..and becomes frustrated when they cannot read what he is writing. He is upset he is still on the ventilator (they put him back on because he was becoming too overtired with breathing on his own)
I know he will be having bad days, along wit hthe good days but i think this is the first time i ACTUALLY realized that. I guess i was so used to him improving every day, that i was a little taken aback by this news. Please keep him in your prayers that he has a better day tomorrow... Thanks so much!

If i see him tomorrow, i will post an update..if not, i will post after the DISmeet! have a great weekend

the blind date was a bust on the dating..but it was fun as a friend..it ended up being just like 4 friends hanging out, which was fine, because he lives like 3 hours away,,it sjust as well..but at least it was a fun day.

I have the house to myself tonight and i am being a bum!! Getting up early tomorrow for dis meet, so ill check in again not til tuesday--Ill be home late sunday night then i have work and class til 10 monday night.hvae a great weekend

Thanks again for dragging us along with ya! I'm kidding. What a GREAT weekend! I definitely learned that I'm no 21 year old anymore!! I just pooped out towards the end!! (maybe it was all the wine?? )

We shared many many laughs, and that's exactly what I needed! You're the best!

Tell mom I said hi!! And tell grandmom we'll try her cake the next time!!

Hello everyone!

Kim-I had a blast!! I dont think its the age (i was pooped out too!) We just had a blast!! (DO NOT DRINK BEFORE ROLLER COASTERS!) so when are we going out again
Thanks for checking in with me once in awhile..its nice to know people care!
This week has been fun so far--the kids are doing great practicing for their musical! I do not have any updates on Alex yet, but I should be going to see him tomorrow. This weekend starts another fundraiser for Alex-He was supposed to be doing a triathelon this weekend and since he cant, 4 other firemen are doing it--A bunch of us will be there selling our alex shirts (which came out looking great!).

I have a midterm to do for my summer class this weekend as well...hopefully theres some relaxing time in there since i was out and about all last weekend!

I had another mini black out episode today--My mom and i figured out that it has to be the heat--the first time it happened was when it was hot as anything in the hospital visiting alex....Today was scorching and the classroom i was in was feeling really hot--I actually had my mom pick me up , i was afraid to drive in that condition--im not feeling all too great now, so im taking it easy.

I got to see Alex today after about a week and a half..i walked in the room, he looked at me and said "hey jen!" I havent heard him talk in so long and it was great to hear him! He had some type of device hooked up to his trach. to allow him to talk.He was talking to my dad and I for about 30 minutes, even joking around. He asked me how college was going and asked us if we saw the tshirts with his name on it. I was SO happy being in there.

He told us that he was even sitting up for 18 minutes--said it was dizzy, but thats to be expected after laying down so long..

People have been asking me for updates so i wanted to post this great one! thanks for all the prayers!

Hope you all are having a good weekend! i got to see my "niece" today! Ive been kind of down and this helped cheer me up..And knowing me , i took pictures!
I got to watch my "niece" and had a great time! She is getting SO big!
Of course, I took pictures!

Tomorrow i will be at the triathalon so hopefully ill be around here next week sometime

I'm so happy for how well Alex's recovery is going. He's doing so great, and he's lucky to have you all there with him.

I can't believe how big Madison is getting!!! Thanks so much for sharing the pictures...you know we love pictures!!

Just a quick update--Ive been up since about 550 this morning to go to the triathalon--It was AMAZING and i just got official word that we sold about 100 shirts so thats about 1000 dollars going towards alex's bills!! im so glad i got to be a part of it..

But im exhausted so headed to bed reallllly early since i have work and school tomorrow..have a great night
