Does anyone have tips for this show? It looks like they do it several times a day, are there times that are better to go to? Any tips for getting chosen to participate?
They look for kids that want to participate. This is not the same as parents who want their kids to participate. The kid jumping up and down, screaming, wearing Star Wars clothing/hat, etc....
They want kids who want to be up there. Prove to them you are that kid.
My son has been picked a few times. We got there early and sat in the front right corner of the left side each time. My son just jumped up and down and waved his hands. The one thing I've seen are kids with signs. They get picked every time! I would recommend that for sure. Have fun and I hope your little one gets chosen.
I'm going with my brother and his kids. While my kids love Star Wars, he has a couple boys that are obsessed. My 9 year old nephew has dressed up as a jedi for Halloween four years in a row. This will be their first Disneyland visit and I'm sure they would love it.

Beside all the previously mentioned info and that thread, the info booth CMs told me that the first show is always the least crowded. On the day we planned to see the show, it was raining. No shows til later in the day when we were busy across the park.
Signs seem to be the way to get picked! A Manila file folder you fold and stow upon park entry seems best from my readings. DL won't let you bring big signs into the park.
Wear something Star Wars related, have a sign, get there early, sit up front. If you don't get picked for that show, stick around for the next one. You'll get picked for sure.
I had my kids where their bright clothes that day - bright orange or yellow. All 3 had signs like I AM a JEDI, etc.
And we sat where mentioned above. When it came time only 1 wanted to do it - dd is shy and I have no idea why ds8 changed his mind. But ds 7 was picked. I really have no doubt that the others would have been picked too. I did copious research on this . LOL.
And if you make a sign (we did it twice and both times my son got picked) make a fairly small one. Regular sheet of paper size, use a sharpie. It doesn't need to be big and outlandish.
