Jedi Training Academy Tips

Hi There, Can someone please confirm if I am getting this right... Best time to signup is to get to park 15-45 min before rope drop on non-EMH days. WALK not run to the sign-up sheet with child. The sign-up sheet might be in different location during Star Wars Weekends.

This is the part that is hazy, can you choose any time that is available or are you given a time? I also assume since you know what time your child it in the show you can also stakeout a prime location near the ropes.

Anything else I am missing?

I wanted to add that yes, when we went, they asked if the 10:10 slot was ok or not, and I said yes. So they'll give you a choice of what's available. Most of the people watching the training are the parents/others with the child particpating. If you get there before the actual training goes on stage I don't think you'll have too much problem getting a good spot to see your child. Once it starts others will stop to watch. If it's the same as when we did it, the kids lined up at the Sound Studio building and then all walked down to the stage for training. You can see the stage from the meeting spot and vice versa, so I had the other adults get a spot when they saw us coming from the Sound Studio building and once I got my nephew over there, I just went to stand next to them. The kids stand on the circles onstage, so I'd try to stand somewhere in the middle, because depending on where your child stands (if they are in the back), it could be harder to see them.

How long does it take to sign up? I have a 9:15 dining reservation and I'm wondering if I should move it back some.

Also, 1 other suggestion is to check the weather. If showers are expected in the am schedule JT for the pm or vice versa. If it rains during your scheduled time, it will be cancelled. Sure they get a M&G with Vader, but not as good of an experience as the training.

The park usually opens at 8:45. If you arrive by 8:15, you'll be near the front, close to the entrance tapstile. You could possibly be finished signing up before 9:00. One adult with the child can go to sign up while the rest of the party checks in at the restaurant.

When I did it, I left Hollywood and Vine at 8:50 and walked over, which took just a few minutes, and people were already signing up. I was done by around 9:10-9:15. You might cut it close but if you are near the beginning of the sign ups you should be ok. If you have other people in your party, you can always have them go check in at your ADR and you take the child participating to the sign ups and then go meet them. They'll seat you once your whole party arrives.

This is a great suggestion. When we did it, it was slightly raining, and we got into the 10:10 training. We were lucky, because the 9:20 training was cancelled due to the rain.

Thanks! I'll have DH with me, so we can split up to do that.

We are going for the first day of SWW. Should I try and get there early to sign up for this or is this the worst day to try and do the Jedi training? We have a breakfast reservation @ 8:15, so we will be there early...

On SWW, the park opens at 8:00, not 9:00, so you won't actually be in the park early.

The gates should open at 7:30 for the Stormtrooper pre-show and then a huge mass of people will head towards Indiana Jones Stunt show to sign up. If you are in DHS on a regular park day, it will easier to sign up for JTA on that day.

Help! A friend just told me Jedi Training is now a FP+ event (she said it changed w/Magic Bands) n. I thought it was a rope drop race to the sign up. Has it changed? :confused3

We did Jedi Training last Oct, and we had Magic Bands. Signups were as discussed in this thread and not FP+.

I'm sure there are lots of posters who have been more recently, though!

100% completely WRONG. If you look in the big SWW thread, you'll see that people were doing in-person signups yesterday. I think what's confusing is that if you go into My Plans (I think?) you can add JTA to your agenda in MDE, but that doesn't mean you have a spot...it means you've left time in yoru plan for a spot. One of my friends almost made that mistake, thinking he didn't have to actually go and sign his kids up because he put it into My Plans in MDE.

JTA will likely always be and in-person signup thing because the CMs have to verify the age of each participant (ages 4-12 only) AND that they actually want to participate and aren't just being goaded into it by an overeager parent.

Did Jedi training on the 5/4/14 and it was a run at rope drop technique.

My son has done this 3 times, and we have always gotten the pictures. It's really simple and it actually didn't take us that long at the store with the photopass kiosks for the photopass cm to find just the pictures of my son and place them on my photopass card. The photopass photographer is great at getting some really good pictures. So if your child is doing this, I highly recommend getting the memory maker thing, I think that is what it is called, I'm use to photopass+. But it is worth it to get the pictures and they have cool borders for the pictures also.

Last June we got there at rope drop. Booked it to the signing and our time was at 430 PM. I would try and get there extra extra early. By no means were we in the front of the rope drop line but it pays to get there earlier in morning so they don't run out of spots.

And if you are not an onsite resort guest, do not attempt to sign-up on an EMH day. Most slots are taken before the park opens to all guests.

I also recommend having Memory Maker if doing the training. The photographer got some really great shots of my nephew, and a lot of them, too. I went to "Cover Story" near the entrance and they went through all of the pictures from the training and put just the ones of my nephew on my MagicBand/Memory Maker.

Thanks everybody! I knew I could count on my Disfriends to set things straight;). and that I wasn't crazy :rotfl:
