Jedi Training Academy Sign Up!!

I wonder if this trend will continue? Can anyone please update this over the next few days to let us all know if this is the new norm?

I am so sad about this. Yes, I know we're lucky to go to Disney and yes, we will still have a great time and our trip isn't ruined, I KNOW that. But we booked this trip for this year because we weren't sure if our son would be too old to care about JTA next year. He ADORES Darth Vader and has been begging to go fight him for two years. In fact, fighting Darth was the second half of the "we're going to Disney World" announcement - not a second sentence, the second half of the actual announcement! I can't believe they're not going to at least give these kids a meet and greet during the down time. One stupid meet and greet would make a world of difference.

I'm not sure to what trend you are referring.

That post was written over half a month ago.

Much discussion on this thread over the time since then.
The direction it has mainly taken ls that Jedi Training Academy is going into refurb from October 4 through December 1.

So who will be appearing for young Jedi's to battle once the refurb is done if it is not Darth Vader? And will Disney make an official announcement in the next few weeks stating the attraction will be closed or will it just be closed one day and that is it?

A DISer on another thread who is going to Disney with Make a Wish posted today that her Wish coordinator has confirmation from Disney that JTA will be closing October 4th and won't reopen until December 1st. There will be no Vader M&Gs or other offering as an alternative during that time.

That post was also made in this thread. :)

Soooo bummed. Our only saving grace was that we haven't told the boys about the trip yet and it's our first trip so they'll be none the wiser. Still such a disappointment though. Honestly, they would be thrilled with even just a meet and greet. I guess I don't understand why the entire thing has to be shut down. :headache:

Oh I know that part. I was asking if it will be a different Sith once it does return. Because I was also reading in this thread when JTA returns it will not be with Darth Vader. So I was wondering if anyone knew who the new villain would be? So if it's not going to be Vader who will it be? Unless it will be returning with Vader

This. I actually cried when I heard the news. We waited until october for our trip so our boy would be old enough. He's obsessed with Darth Vader adn was so excited about being a Jedi. It was one of the key elements of the trip for us.

Waa!! We've done both DV and DM and there is something iconic about DV up there!!! Not sure I will feel it is JTA if he is gone :(. Of course I grew up on the original SW. Also, has the "closing" been officially announced? Just planned FP+ and DHS assuming we would do JTA.....TIA!

It's been confirmed. Make-A-Wish was notified that JTA's last day is October 4th... this was after the JTA cast was informed of the same date.

At least we have some "official" confirmation. And thank goodness Disney is being transparent with Make-a-Wish about this. The rest of us with healthy children can live with the disappointment, but for many Wish kids, this would truly be a one-shot deal.
For many of us with healthy kids this is a one shot deal as well. We aren't able to get back to Disney before our kids age out.

Rumors are swirling that the new version won't be limited by age. Hopefully so. My kids were bummed, especially DD who will be 13 after our trip, but she's already over it. There are so many experiences to be had. Maybe you can do the build a light saber at DHS and take some cool pics??

If you can't see the difference between a healthy child aging out before your next trip and a child on a Wish trip not getting to participate...well, I feel a little sorry for you, actually.

No need to feel sorry for me - In this case no, I see no difference in a child aging out and a child on a Wish trip missing out. A child who is heart broken because of a missed once in a lifetime event is upsetting - no matter their health conditions.

So calm down, and get off your high horse for a minute and listen to what I am saying.

My point was that there will be many heartbroken children because of this decision by Disney. Many will be impacted by this, not just children on a Wish trip. I love that there is an organization that provides Wish Trips and experiences for these children and their families. (my niece had her own Wish trip a few years ago and it was a wonderful time my sister will always remember and cherish.) BUT all children are important and all children's tears matter. I'm upset for ALL the kids who will miss out - not just those on a Wish Trip.
I also realize that I am blessed beyond measure and that this disappointment is minuet compared to the suffering of the world.

This would be cool! That would make my biggest "kid" happy - my husband! :rotfl:

We are focusing on the positives - the build a light saber, Star Tours ride, and the fact that we're at Disney. It was just that this was a trip for my 5 yr old son's bday and all he wanted was to see Baymax and the Jedi Training. So I just feel like I let him down. I know - it's just silly. We will have a blast, I'm sure.
