Totally depends on the kid. I would love to see a 4yo join Darth on the dark side. So would the crowd!
I will confess that we just returned from the world, and allowed our 3.5yo* to battle Darth (along with 8yo DS). It really depends on the kid. Some 6yo couldn't handle it, but some 4ish do just fine. He follows directions well, is crazy confident, and loves Darth Vadar. I had no concerns with him. We watched the show together before we left, and talked about the circles, and what 'activate' meant with the sabers.
*I do know that the ages are 4-12, and if we weren't getting ready to move to Seattle, and won't see the world for a very long time, I would have postponed it for the next trip. The CM was kind, the 3.5yo stated he was 4, but then the 8yo said he was 3, and then the CM smiled, and said 'Happy Birthday' and permitted him to sign up. We went into it knowing that we may/may not be able to do it, and made no promises.
Final words of advice, is not to do it when it is really hot out (harder on young kids) or when they might be tired. We arrived close to rope drop (8:30ish), on a preferred day, '4' rating...and waited in a long line. The earliest show we could get was 2pm, which conflicted with an Epcot CP ADR, so we opted for the last show of the night (returned after Candlelight Processional), and it was a great idea. He slept through CP, and was ready to roll for the 8pm show. Pictures weren't as great (can't see the backdrop), but worked great.
