DS is 6 and will have just turned 7 when we go on our first DL trip. he would loved to be picked for the Jedi training. I have read that dressing them in disney shirts or Star Wars shirts helps. Which is more effective? Had already planned on having disney shirts for both kids but should I dress DS in a Star Wars shirt. Also read read making a sign what should it say. TIA. Will probably be our first and only trip to West Coast so this would make it extra special

Us, too! 1st trip to DL and I have a DS7...crazy for Star Wars...do we sign up, like at WDW (HS) or what do we even do????

Our plan to get DS chosen is to have him in a Star Wars shirt that day (I'm trying REALLY hard to track down one of those Jedi Mickey shirts, but no luck so far; otherwise, we have several Star Wars shirts he can wear that day), and make a sign (not sure what it will say yet; probably something short and sweet/cheesy that they'll be able to read well) that can be folded up and stored in my bag for him to hold. We'll also tell him he can jump up and down if he wants.

Just show up a bit early, and it helps, as mentioned above to have them dressed in either a Star Wars or a Disney shirt (bright colors that are easy for the CMs to call out, such as "The kid in the red shirt with Darth Maul on it!") and have them hold a sign (I've read about them saying things like, "The force is strong with this one" and "I want to be a Jedi!"). :)

Just read thread dedicated to the Jedi Academy a few pages in. Looks like the best bet is a sign and enthusiasm. So hoping DS gets picked will try anything. I guess there is no sign up like at WDW the Master Jedi picks from the crowds. As I finished reading the thread I am wondering if DD should have a sign she loves acting and will be upset if big brother gets to go on stage and she stay behind LOL

For the sign --

"Pick me, it's my birthday" or "Pick me, it's my 1st trip to DL" or "The Force is with me" etc.....

We have used a sign twice and DS has been picked both times! ;)

Here are the three signs I made for our trip. It took me a while to come up with a few one-liners. I'm not a real fan of the movies....

The grandkids were the first two picked. The Jedi Master said "The two with signs, come on up"

My son wants to make a sign that says something like Jedi mind trick, you will pick me

We have done signs and they work every time. Doesn't need to be anything big and fancy something your can stick in your bag will do. Good luck

I picked shirts in bright colors - orange and yellow. And they made signs on white cardboard w/ popsicle sticks saying I AM a Jedi. Lots of enthusiasm and get there early enough so you are in the front.

The sign is the way to go. DS got picked both times we tried on our trip last April out of A LOT of kids. He made his own sign that had light sabers on it and just said "Star Wars". The "host" even came over pre-show to say what a good sign it was. He is only 5 so it was a rudamentary sign for sure.

High recommend getting there 20+ minutes before so your kid will be on the front line - prefect for jumping up and down with sign.

What time do they start this? How many shows per day??

Cute!!!! Great ideas! LOL

Last year both my kids got picked. I guess the trick is to make them stand out. My DD 8, had pink streaks in her hair and was jumping up and down. My son 6, had a cast on his arm. They did love it!

I thought it would be fun to come up with some more.

Pick me, you will
When [X] years old you reached, look as good, you did not
Chewy says, "Aaaaaargggg!"
The odds that you won't pick me are approximately 3,720 to 1
I know what really happened to TK-421
The Force is middling in this one
Thank the maker you picked me
Don't be a mindless philosopher, pick me
Don't be an overweight glob of grease, pick me
I'm good against remotes AND the living
This is Red 5, I'm ready to go in
I suggest a new strategy, pick me
Luke? He owes me $20
You don't need to see my identification
It's not a trap!

I have heard its for ages 4-12 but my 3 year old got picked a couple weeks ago with his 2 older brothers!

Enthusiasm helps a lot, the kid themselves showing that they are engaged and excited and that it's not just dad's idea to live vicariously through their child. :) Having them wear something overtly star wars certainly will help, as will signs too I'd imagine. Both my 6 son, and years ago my 6 y/o nephew were picked because I "held them up and shook them like a stick" while they cheered and shouted and waived their hands...

Although something else just to throw out there, while they try to get everyone, there is only a limited number of spots... (1) he might not be chosen, make sure you're clear that you're going to "try"... (2) if he isn't chosen there are multiple shows each day, so go back and try again - feel free to mention it it a cast member on the second or third attempt.

Good luck and may the force be with him :)
