Jeans allowed at dinner, but no shorts?

I haven't been "in the loop" so to speak with the new cruising policies, but I think I read recently that DCL has changed the dress code for casual nights.

Is it true that they now allow jeans at dinner on casual night, but still no shorts?? Personally, I'd rather see a family dressed in nice shorts outfits than in jeans,{edited to add: only because a lot of people think that jeans are too informal for a cruise. I honestly don't care if people wear jeans to dinner on a cruise, especially on the casual nights. And this is why I think they should add shorts too. If it's truly going to be a "casual" night, then why not shorts?} Personally, *I* would rather be dressed in a nice shorts outfit!!!! :teeth: Once they've decided to let people wear jeans, what's the harm in some people wearing nice shorts? :confused3

Especially cruising in August, it would've been SO nice and relaxing and comfortable, to put on a pair of khaki shorts and a dressy top, and dressy sandals, to have dinner in, on the casual nights.

Oh well. It seems that with time, DCL eventually gets it "right" (for example, now the soda is free while on other cruise lines it is not, they've added jeans to casual night {not that I'll ever wear jeans to dinner on a cruise because I would be too hot}, and the rumor about the new 12-14 age teen club), I am hopeful they will add shorts to the casual night policy. :flower:

The suggested attire is just that--suggested. I've never seen anyone run out of a DCL restaurant no matter how inappropriate their attire.

Yes, the new guidelines ok jeans (can't imagine taking jeans on a cruise, but...). As to shorts--well, there are the nice looking shorts that you and I would wear and that I would allow my daughter to wear, and then there are the shorts that some of the kids in her youth group wear. It is far easier to say "no shorts" than it is to try to regulate the appropriateness of the shorts. Of course, I guess they could have the same problems at lunch.

DCL has made many improvements over the years. I don't doubt that they'll keep improving the cruise experience for all of us!

One reason to bring jeans on a cruise is that it's chilly in most areas of the ship on the inside, my legs get too cold in skirts or capris. A least that's how my family felt. We all wore jeans or jeans capris at least one evening during the cruise. I wore jeans to the 70's party & Pub night shows. But we are not talking about jeans you would wear to work on the car or do gardening in. They were dressy jeans and were worn with heals and dressy tops.

And actually I never really noticed what other people wore at dinner we were having too much fun with our own family group to care.

I don't care what anyone else wears either! Honestly! That's not what this thread is about. (who needs another "I can't believe what people wore to dinner, they ruined my cruise!" thread. LOL) :teeth: LOL And my family does follow the dress codes, but I was just saying that I'm surprised they've added jeans to the casual nights, but still not shorts. I would LOVE to be able to wear shorts on casual nights. :)

I think how hot or cold a person is can vary greatly, depending on time of year of the cruise, how cold DCL has the public rooms at any given time, and how cold the person tends to be naturally. On our cruise last August, I was never fully cooled off while on the ship, unless I was swimming. It was very hot and humid, and that's a part of the reason why I'd love to wear shorts a few nights. I did wear dresses and sun dresses on casual nights, but I prefer shorts over dresses. :) Hopefully DCL will eventually add shorts to the casual nights dress code. :flower:

P.S. I just reread my original post and I see where I did make a small comment about families wearing jeans. I didn't mean to imply anything negative about people who do wear jeans! Sorry! I am going to reword that part to better convey what I meant.

I've never been on a cruise before, so I'm not familiar with what people wear. I was just planning on wearing a casual dress, dh a pair of dockers pants and collared shirt, and the ds's will dress similar to that. I hope that's o.k. We're going in August, so I can't even imagine wearing jeans.

Nik's mom, where did you find the picture in your sig? It is one of my favorites. I would love to use it on our door sign next cruise.

It's difficult to regulate inappropriate from appropriate in items like shorts. You could show up in something clean and crisp and well-covered. Someone else could show up in denim Daisy Dukes.

I will be wearing a skirt everyday, because I like dressing up just a little and I can't really wear skirts to work as a teacher :teacher: (I'm too active, bending over all the time! :earseek: )

Everyone should whatever makes them look good and feel comfortable as long as they're sufficiently covered.

Thanks, Lisa! The picture is just perfect, isn't it. I stumbled on that magnetic door thread and whipped up the sign after being inspired by others. I went to google.com, then did an image search by typing in "disney cruise line". I just picked out the perfect picture. I did have to do some touch ups with my picture software, but it was nothing major. It only took about 10 minutes!

Dress code rebel checking in. :teeth:

We were on a 4 day earlier this month. Our DH's wore Tommy Bahama shirts and shorts every night and to Palo brunch. We did not feel out of place or honestly look out of place at all. The guys may have worn slacks to a Palo dinner, but we chose brunch.

We spend a lot of time in the tropics and dress shorts are perfectly appropriate dinner wear in any restaurant. For us, it's much more important to be "neat and pretty" at dinner.

I think they keep shorts out of it, because of how short shorts can actually be...lol.

My hubby did wear shorts on pirates night and that wasn't a problem at all. They were longer khaki shorts.

See I am one to think that you should be able to wear what you want on your vacation... Yes I can see not putting on shorts for dinner, but if you are comfortable in jeans and a nice shirt, then it should be allowed. I am paying loads of money to have a great experience and I wont be paying attention to what the people beside me have on. If you want to dress to the nine's.. go for it.. if you want to be casual.. go for it.. to me its what makes you comfortable...

You can wear what you want to on YOUR vacation. THe suggested dress is "suggested." It is not in any way enforced.

FOUND IT! Thanks so much!!! :) I just did a cut out of a blank water area & sky are then imposed it over the writing that they had on it. Easy as pie!

Oh, by the way along with the snacks I think that someone should put on some tunes. ;)
