Thursday, Sept 23

We decided to find out our options for this trip, since we're supposed to arrive in Orlando on Sunday, and so is hurricane Jeanne. The airport ain't big enough for all of us, but she's probably going to win....We ended up deciding to fly in on Friday evening, and go to Disney on Saturday. Delta let us change our tickets due to the weather, no penalties or charges, wonderful! They have a flight from Columbus to Orlando, non-stop, leaving Columbus at 9:20 pm on Friday, and there are 4 empty seats....great, since we need 4 seats! We got a reservation for Friday night at the Amerisuites Northwest, right outside Orlando Int'l Airport since we're getting in so late; I called Disney and got a room-only ressie for Saturday night, arriving 1 day earlier than planned, and DH called FL Tours to see if they can pick us up a day early with such short notice. Guess what? They can! They couldn't get us until noon, but that was no big deal, as long as we could get there! He also said they would call our cell phone if they had a cancellation and could get us earlier. I think we're all set!

Friday, Sept 24

Called in to work to let my boss know we did in fact get our plans changed and I wouldn't be in as planned. No problem! Finished up last minute packing, and cleaning the house, since the realtor was going to show it while we were gone. I went to the bank and took care of a couple errands, and then I was so excited I couldn't stand too much more! DH loaded up the dogs' crates, food, etc., and took it out to MIL's, since they were staying there while we were gone. He came home, we got our luggage loaded, and all piled in, including the dogs, and went to MIL's. Dropped the dogs off, visited for a little while, then it was time to go! Drove to Columbus with no problems, kids did really well, slept most of the way. Had no problem parking in the long-term lot, got out of the car and the shuttle was waiting for us, wonderful! Driver helped us with our luggage, and we were off. Checked in at the curb for our flight, one of our suitcases was 5 lb too heavy, so DH took some heavier stuff out of it (shampoo, conditioner, laundry soap, etc) and went to put it in another bag....but the rest of our checked bags were already gone, so he stuffed it in his carry on and off we went. We to Max & Erma's for dinner, took our time, food was great, server was pretty good. We headed off for security, started our bags through, and wouldn't you know, our tickets were flagged for extra security. All 4 of us, including Isaac, had to be patted down and gone over with the wand; it was hilarious, they started with DH, and Trevor is yelling "Do me, do me!" It was kinda sad to watch them pat Isaac down, he's only 15-months old, and I can't believe people would think of strapping something to a baby like that! We made it through ok, and got to our gate around 7:30, a bit early, but that's better than late. Not much after we got to the gate, we found out our plane had been delayed in Orlando because of a mechanical problem, but they had it fixed and they should land around 10 pm, only an hour or so behind. The kids did really well, walked around the terminal, played with toys we brought and ones that were there. Finally, around 9:45, the gate attendant said the plane would be there soon, but it was still having problems....I started to panic. I've never flown, and I wasn't about to get on a broken-down plane! Since it was so late at night, there was a plane at the next gate that was cleaned for the night, it was identical to ours, so the crew was going to transfer to it when they got here, and we'd take it. The gate attendant assured me that it didn't have any problems. A few minutes later we were ready to board, and we were able to change our seats and sit together, since only 24 people showed up and the plane held 50. When we boarded, I was really shocked at how small the plane was. I was expecting something like you see on tv, but this was just a little regional jet, one seat, and aisle, and two more seats. Thank goodness I'm not claustrophobic, but I was thinking of my friend that is. I was still unsure, but Trevor was brave, so I had to be too. We settled in, and Isaac went to sleep as soon as he got in his carseat. Trev was thrilled because they gave him sprite and pretzels, and after he ate those he went to sleep. Trevor woke up as we were getting ready to land. It was after midnight when we landed, and we were exhausted. We made our way into the terminal and took the monorail to the main airport. It took us awhile to get there, with the kids, our carryons, the carseat, etc, and our bags were waiting when we got there. We went outside and got a taxi. I don't recommend the airport taxis unless you have no other choice, but as late as it was, we didn't care. We finally got to Amerisuites around 1:15 and made our way inside. We were glad to be there, but the desk person was really slow getting the crib to our room, and didn't bother telling us there was no mattress for the crib. DH called the desk when we got to our room, and he said there wasn't another mattress and it was the last crib. We put two thick blankets in the bottom and put his sheet on and he was fine. We fell asleep around 2 am, and we were glad to be there.

Next up: Arrival at ASMo and Chef Mickey's!
