We could go apple picking, to a pumpkin patch, the topsfields fair is around as is King Richards fair, the 11th is the cranberry festive in Carver or we can always do lunch at the rainforest cafe... any other ideas

I kind of agree with Mindy... we are 10 min from Boston and there are only 2 of us so I would be OK with a duck tour but I want to try and get as many people as possible!!

Okay, here's what I found...

Topsfield Fair...runs from 10/3-10/13, 10a-10p. ( Jeff Corwin will be there on the 11th.$14 to see him). Tickets are $12 at the gate, $8 prepurchased. Ride Tickets are 11/$19. Parking is $8. Children under 8 get in free.

The Big E (Springfield) runs from 9/12-9/28. Advance Tickets are $10, parking is $10. Don't know how much the rides are...probably very expensive on a weekend.

King Richard's Faire (Carver) is every weekend from 8/30-10/19. Tickets online are $23.50, at gate $25.00, group tix for 25 or more adults are $21 apiece. There is a $1 off coupon online for gate admission. Be aware, some of the shows can be a little risque...for instance, 9/13 is a Cleavage Contest, and 10/4 is Tattoo Day...but 9/27 is Prince and Princess Costume Day, for the 12 and younger set.

Cranberry Festival is 10/11. Good for very young children, boring for everyone else...besides, OKW Lover can't make this one.

Does anyone think a whale watch might be fun? Of course, it's weather-dependent, and you have to be able to take some rough seas sometimes, but it's a blast. Adult cost $37, children $25 (If we get more than 20, it drops to $30 and $20, respectively). Goes from noon to about 4pm.

Any other ideas? Suggestions?

Oooooh, count me in too. I love all the ideas. Perhaps I could suggest that we plan a rain date or a back up plan/location. All the ideas thus far seem to call for good weather. Just a thought.

Example...Location:Topsfield Fair....if raining Rainforest Cafe. Or whatever....

You are assuming that there will be Food & Wine left on the 11th.....I will be at Epcot 3rd and 4th and don't think that there will be leftovers. 3rd will be Champagne and Chocolate Day for me!!!!

I don't think DH would want to go, he is tired of me dragging him to the cruise critic meets. He doesn't even go on the yearly trip to WDW with DD and I.

Hi all! Jumping in here. I had to laugh about this post.

1. I had to pick my lil sis up at Carver Police station after she had a GREAT time at King Richards one year drunk as a skunk! I have never been, yet I live a town over.

2. A whale watch?? memories of my DD last year, class trip, puke fest!! She said EVERYONE was sick and it was aweful LOL. I laugh because that for sure would be me!

Now I have to think about what could be fun to do... do we have a head count? I am not sure I have the guts to show up though. I am kinda shy

I guess we should figure out how many are interested, where we all live so we can go toward the majority?? How many have kids? ages? so we can figure something for all..

Somewhere around here I have a recipe for Cranberry Liquor. Found it...have no idea where I got if from (that is my disclaimer). Thought you might want to do something w/ the cranberries.

Yield about 3 cups

1 12 oz. pkg. cranberries (about 3 cups)
1 cinnamon stick or 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 lemon (juice only)
1 knob fresh ginger, 1 inch long, thinly sliced
1 1/4 cups sugar
2 cups 80 proof vodka

Place all ingredients in a blender and process until finely chopped. Pour into a 2 quart container. (A recycled milk bottle or yoghurt container is very handy.) Cover and set aside for at least 2 weeks.

*Line a colander with a tea towel and place it over a bowl. Strain through the cloth, and then twist it into a ball and squeeze it dry. Pour the liquid into an empty wine or liquor bottle . This is particularly pleasing when served freezing cold.

*The towel will stain, and may not wash out.

The only thing I probably wouldn't do that was mentioned was the Topsfield Fair. That's a bit too far for me.

I live up in New Hampshire, I would love to come!!!
I have 3 young kids ages 7 to 8 months. I need to work something out, I dont know if I will bring them or not, it depends on what we are doing!
Cheap is good, I work in real estate and have NO money anymore........this will be as Disney as I get for a while!!!

What about one of the Boston Harbor cruises? Both the Odyssey and the Spirit of Boston offer brunch cruises and group discounts. There are also a couple of other cruises, but it looks like they end at the end of September.
