Jazzing up a Magic Band... Worth it?

I was all about getting the Dooney & Bourke Haunted Mansion Magic Band when we first booked our trip, but as life has it, kept putting it off. Over the past few months I've also debated some of the Etsy shops that sell stickers (skins) for the band to add some personality. I know it's a personal decision, I just can't decide if it's worth the money to grab either a fun band, if a skin would hold up for the duration of the trip, or if I will really be just as happy with the color I pick.

Wondering if anyone has gone either direction; buying a character band or a skin, and if so, did it add that little extra pizzazz to your trip? Did the skin hold up? Was it a pain to put on? I just saw this new Mickey and Minnie Walk in the Park Band (link below) and it's super cute... Just not sure it's $50 cute.

Such a small thing, but this is our first trip with Magic Bands...

After using MBs on two prior trips, I wanted to get a non-generic one. So, I got Boba Fett and bought a Darth Vader one for DS. We both enjoyed them. We couldn't find a 2nd Gen Figment MB for DW, so she opted for the free one we got via the resort stay. So, it really is a personal choice. I'll probably want another non-generic one whenever we go back.

The next time I'm an AP holder (mine expires in days and I'm not renewing for now) - I might get a specialty band to use for that cycle.

But - I think for most folks who make a trip here or there - it's not worth the extra money. They do last a while - but eventually the battery will run out.

Its hard to pay for something that is FREE with a resort stay.....

I buy those little things you stick in the band holes ( little Minnie’s and such) for my kids, and they can change and trade them with eachother. They love them

I decorate mine with nail polish and rhinestones. Well I did with the version 1’s. Only have one version 2 so far and it’s in the Minnie keychain.

I used to paint ours myself, until 2.0 came out and gave us the option of wearing them as something other than a wristband. This time around, I ordered lanyard-medallion style keepers for the puck. They were $12 ea on Etsy and are super-cute. One is Figment, one is the Black Widow symbol. I'm still painting mine, puck only, and putting it in a slider that will go on my Fitbit band.

If we liked wearing the bands I might have been willing to spring for one of the lower-end band designs (IIRC, Black Widow is like $20ish) but there wasn't one my younger daughter liked and my older daughter and I both wear Fitbits so we prefer the idea of a non-band setting for our MB pucks.

They do last a while - but eventually the battery will run out.

Can still use it for the activities involving putting mickey’s head right up to something. Paying, entering the park, opening your onsite door. It’s the long range stuff that stops.

we bought skinds for my DD and DS for their MB's because I Knew they would see all the other variations at the park and theirs would look pretty boring. It was very affordable, we ordered through https://www.magicyourband.com. Shipping was free, for 2 designs it was $12 I believe? Each skin comes in a set of two so incase the first one doesn't last I can peel them off and do them again. We haven't been yet, so I have no comment on if they last or not but I'm pretty happy with them.

My daughter and I used nail polish and glitter on ours. They were fun to decorate and helped us get excited for our trip. Honestly, it seemed like most people just kept their original bands. I will say, chunky glitter makes the band get caught on the sleeves of your long sleeved tees and jackets. : (

We always decorate our magic bands. Temp tattoos are pretty easy and lots of clear nail polish on top. I have some color changing nail polish (starts out green, turns navy blue in the sun) that I use and some glow in the dark nail polish too. Kids get a kick out of it and we always get a lot of attention from them.

I usually decorate mine with nail polish. One year we did a big family trip, so we made it a night and decorated magic bands. It was fun! (But boys do not know how to properly apply nail polish and ruined several bottles lol!)
My favorite one is covered in red glitter nail polish and then I painted the Mickey head black glitter. I get a lot of compliments on that one, especially by CMs asking me where I got it. Once they got purple, I didn't want to decorate them any more. And last trip, I was Edna Mode for MNSSHP, so I had a pink band and it was the perfect accessory. Dahling.

I have done the skins in the past and really enjoyed them! One year I did a Doctor Who skin and I lost count on the number of awesome comments about it. Even got a little bit of pixie dust cause "it's more like a big ball of wibbly-wobbly... timey-wimey... stuff".

Oh my gosh, you guys are all so creative! I never even considered decorating ourselves, but I am feeling inspired! I love this!

Definitely some fun ideas to consider...

This bitter cold winter has me dreaming of Disney perhaps more than ever before, so I truly appreciate the feedback, thoughts, creative ideas, examples... Giving me something to ponder and something else to plan!

I ordered MagicYourBands for our upcoming trip too. Plenty of designs to choose from. I can't wait to use them!

We don't use the bands they want to send us. I bought bands for everyone based on their likes and dislikes. My daughter for example choose the most ugly Johnny Depp/Mad Hatter green band for her birthday and she got me Grumpy for my birthday.

I am going to be doing my own this year because I want to represent my favorite underappreciated Avenger (Hawkeye).

I got skins for ours. Kids had Ariel and Elsa, mine was sparkly dole whips. It didn't line up great, but super cute!
