Jaw Pain after Cavity Filling?

My dd had pain like this after she got a filling this summer. She went back well over a month later and they told her she may need a root canal and referred her to an entodontist (sp?). We saw one and they said no to the root canal but that the jaw pain could be coming from her wisdom teeth and he suggested they be removed. We had that done yesterday so I can't say if the pain is gone for her yet but I will keep you posted.
Hey! I have been looking information on internet and forums and finally found this one because that’s exactly what happened to me and I’m literally in depression due to what happened. Could you please make an update if the wisdom teeth have been removed? I had fillings last Monday on my 2 last bottom teeth and after that I’m experiencing jaw pain, when I eat I heart clicking, I can not open the jaw wide, even when I move tongue it hurts. I went back ti my dentist he said it is wisdom tooth but I never experienced pain due to that, neither do I have a pain in the gums so I did not believe him. I went to a different dentist they told me my mouth could have been open too wide and I might of broken the muscle in a jaw? I really do not know what to do, it’s been now 10 days since I can not open my jaw and this is so painful. The pain when I try to open goes from the bottom front of the jaw and goes sometimes to the ear. But the most annoying is the clicking sound when I try to eat!! Any updates please help :(

Hi Maria and Welcome to the Dis! Just an FYI, this thread was started in 2018 and mousefanmichelle hasn't been here for several months.

In any case I hope you get it figured out and feel better soon. Perhaps someone else can chime in and offer some advice.:earsboy:

Hi Maria,

I don't see a way to PM you, feel free to PM me. It sounds as though you may be dealing with TJJ--jaw joint issues which I know firsthand all too well about. I would be happy to share my experience and some suggestions with you if you'd like. Take care of yourself and know folks care:grouphug:

I had that same pain after a filling and it was not improving. Turns out I was allergic to the composite/material of the filling. Once it was replaced with something else, the pain went away.

I went to a new dentist a few weeks ago. They found a cavity in my top far back tooth on the right side. I had it filled on Tuesday. Since then my jaw is hurts at the joint. Has anyone experienced this before?

I read that it could be caused by trauma from the injection in the jaw muscle. But I was hoping it would go away by now. The pain gets worse as the day goes on. I left a message for the dentist and haven't received a call back.
This is a "possibility" and not something I'd wish for you.

I pretty much had same scenario except I knew I had bitten down hard on something a few days after my filling. Long story short: it all started on the day ALL dentist offices were closing ( Covid), after xray, CT( matbe it was something else), infections, jaw exercises and 14 months later did another dentist determine a cracked tooth, infection the entire time and now my tooth is removed!!! IF you constantly have pain, go back to the dentist and don't stop until your are pain free!!
