DH and I are considering going to WDW again the week AFTER new year's when things start clearing out. We've been twice at Christmas and have seen that the weather fluctuates at that time of year. The first time we went, it was perfect, sunny and warm during the day and cool at night. This past year it was perfect a couple days and was literally below freezing some of the other days. So, I was just curious if January is similar to Christmas or if will just be basically cold by this time? Anyone who has experience with this time of year, please chime in, but please specify if this is a one-time experience or a regular trip overview. Thanks!

We can from Chicago, so that is my bias to start - it was probably 20 degrees when we left.........I remember leaving the hotel in the morning and going to the parks with shorts and a sweatshirt...probably in the 60's.....then we were warm by mid-day...probably low 70's........We thought it was wonderful! Again, evening it would turn cooler.....dipping back into the 60's....We really didn't mind because the crowd level was really low....We went on and off rides all day long........Come to think of it, it was Marathon Weekend in 05, to be specific........It was kind of cool to see all the runners wearing their medals.....I told myself i was going to do the half marathon - not quite there yet!!

That was our only january trip......I would check weather.com for orlando and click on Averages........It will give you the average high/low for Jan. (73/53)...it didn't feel that cold last jan.

Each year we go in January the weather is different. We might be in shorts one and day winterwear the next. We just pack lots of layers so we can add or take off as needed. :moped:

Your Christmas week experience is like January. First week of January 2005 was 80 and sunny every day. First week of Janauray 2004 was hit and miss and mostly fairly cool (some call it cold, but being from Chicago anything that time of year above 30 we consider a heat wave).

Hi,

We have traveled to WDW during Jan or the first week of Feb the past three winters. The weather can be all over the place. This past trip Jan 2005 we had a day or so with the temps in the 32s overnight and early morning with highs only in the high 50s but since we are from Boston and when we called home to our parents they were dealing with 10inches of snow and single digit temps somehow 50s and no snow did not seem bad to them or us.

The majority of the time the temps are usually in the mid to high 50's in the morning and then in the mid 70's by noontime. Very comfortable. We enjoy traveling at this time of year to WDW and are scheduled to go back this coming Jan 2006.

Thanks so much! I was hoping it would be similar to our Christmas trips so I would have a point of reference. It seems from the answers so far, that it will be very similar....thanks so much for all your answers! :sunny:

You just don't know. We have been in sunny 80 degree temps and also see your breath actually need mittens pouring freezing :guilty: We have a great time no matter what but we sure do like those great sunny 70'sh days if at all possible. :sunny:  :love1:

We went for our first January trip this past January 9th-15th. I was expecting cold weather so packed only two pair of shorts (just in case). Everything else was sweatshirts, fleece, and jeans. Those two pair of shorts got washed every other night. It was hot until the last night, when it rained and got cold. :cold: That night (and the next day) we wore our jeans and fleece and were still cold.

As someone else said though, it also depends on where you are from and what you're used to. I was there this past January, May, and Sept and it was cooler in Florida all three trips, than it was here in east Texas. I'm cold natured and there's no way I'm wearing shorts if it's 60 degrees. To me that's sweats/jacket weather.

I was also there this past Jan 9-14th. I wore a light jacket at night but during the day a tee shirt was fine. The last day (14th) is was raining and chilly. I live near Philadelphia and usually don't wear a jacket until temps in the low 50s.
