January visit - questions on new attractions?

Our visit is in just about three weeks. Last visit two years ago.

In days of yore, our brains were pretty scrambled by Jimmy Neutron, even though we are generally fine with coasters, Mission Space, and other "intense" rides. Is Despicable Me pretty similar to Jimmy in terms of how jarring it will be?

And if I haven't seen the movies, will the attraction make any sense?

(Oddly enough, the other ride in Universal that scrambled my brain was another kid-oriented one, Cat In The Hat.)

Then there's Transformers. All I've seen is the first movie, so I get the general gist of what's going on. Should I see the other movies to understand the attraction? Unlike Despicable Me, I'm not thinking about skipping this one.

Planning multiple rides on Men in Black in hopes of finally reaching 999k. Has the attraction gotten any love in recent months, or are we still seeing targets and sensors gradually disappear, and guns that "sorta" work?

Thanks for your inputs here.

I only rode Neutron once, but the whole ride experience is basically the same. You CAN get non-moving seats, though, if you ask.

The storyline is very much about the movie...but Minions are pretty fun and funny, so you might enjoy it without seeing the movie. But...I HIGHLY recommend seeing the movies. They are really very funny. It's hilarious and very heartwarming by the end.

Transformers...I've seen the first movie over and over thanks to my son and husband, and the ride was absolutely incomprehensible to me. Part of this was because of my weird hearing, though I have heard that others have a hard time understanding what is being said, er, YELLED at you. The other part is that for me it's just Spiderman, redone. Some like it, some don't. I'm a "I rode Spiderman already, I don't need this one, too" person.

Minion mayhem was fun. I had an infant so sat in the stationary seats. Still a nice show. We had minion lovers in our group and they rode in the seats.

Transformers was good, Spiderman with different characters. :( but still fun nonetheless. But we rode transformers first.

I don't think you *need* to watch the movies to understand the rides.

I found mib to be lacking from the last time I was there in 2005. But it may just have been our particular car since the others that rode racked up loads of points.

Transformers The Ride - it took me 3 rides to figure out the story line since I'm not into the whole transformers thing even though I saw the first movie. In short, pay attention to the story line being shouted from all the monitors in the queue line. Bad robots attacking to steal the AllSpark power devise, you have to get it out of the city. First scene of the ride, the evil robot cat tries to steal the AllSpark, your ride vehicle is a good transformer called Evac who grabs the AllSpark and leads you on an exciting escape ride. That's the plot, you may need to ride again since there is so much to see during the ride.

Thanks, all.

Since I'm going at a very low crowd time - second week of January - I should be able to ride Transformers twice without much trouble. And since I can handle Spiderman with no problem, two rides shouldn't scramble my brain too badly.

Still have to make up my mind on "Minions", but I have a request in to our library for the DVD.
