January No Buy: Let's Start the Year Right!

I'm back! :wave2: I have done No Buy several times in the past, but it's been a few months. I don't always finish out the month. :rolleyes1 I DO always track my spending on my own in a notebook, but I don't always remember to post it here. :upsidedow

I am not going to post a goal number of $0 days. I instead want to focus on the total of all the spending to be less than $500 for my food, gas, and miscellaneous categories of my budget.

The reason I'm not making the $0 Days be the emphasis is that I find for me, I get too much "feast and famine" mentality and when I blow a $0 Day, I go all out. :headache: Gotta make that spend day worthwhile, if you know what I mean. :lmao:

Just The Facts:

1: $0!

$0 Buy Days: 1
Total Spent: $0/$500=0%
Month Over: 1/31=3%

I'M BACK!!!!!! :cool1: The "No Buy thread is my AA for spending foolishly:worship:So I need this thread to keep me on track. :worship

I have been away from the "No Buy's" for quite awhile. And I slipped(more like rocketed) off the wagon in a big way. : My biggest goal is to not eat out for breakfast and lunch on work days. PACKING MY OWN again. So, I plan on started the year off right.
We are a family of 3 with 1 dog and 1 personal vehicle. DH drives a company van.

My January budget is $1200 with 10 no spend days.

Auto $60
Groceries/Household Goods $250
(only because I need to buy my bulk meats this month)
Eating Out/Entertainment $50
Misc. $100

I'm in, but this month, I am tracking ONLY the $0 days. My goal is 10 days without buying gas for the car, going to the grocery store, hitting the drugstore or discount store etc. And, with a DH who can't stand a day without shopping, that will be a challenge in itself!

Jan. 1: $0
Jan. 2: $0

How I love the flea market. I got 2 noodle sides, 1 rice side, a double pack of Contact cold medicine, spaghetti sauce, spaghetti, a Zataran alfredo meal mix, shampoo for Dh, bananas, some fresh broccoli and cauliflower and a newspaper for $11.00. Brilliant. Makes losing the 0 buy day worthwhile. :-)

Ok, so I think I posted and said I was going to try this, but couldn't find it. So I guess this will be the post where I'll keep track of things? Is that how it works?

Anyway... I was going to go for 20, but don't think that's realistic so I'll go for 15 No Buy Days. I'm hitting January hard!! And since it's just after Xmas there really is NOTHING we need. And I'm not counting regular bills.

1/1 - $0
1/2 - $89.30 (for 2 weeks worth of groceries - this meal planning stuff really works!)

I usually quote my most recent post, remove the [/QUOTE] brackets from around it, then update it.

If you add to it without removing the quote brackets, then you will only be quoting your most recent addition each time - the quote feature doesn't quote the quotes within a post.

Woo hoo, I love fresh starts, and a new year is a big one! Hello No Buy friends, and welcome to the new ones. Think I will shoot for another 10 no buy days, both dd4 and dh have January birthdays, and we leave for our trip the 1st week of Feb, so I may need to buy a few things for that. Good luck everyone!

Really great to see lots of new no-buyers- welcome everyone! Dh and I went on a movie and dinner (gift card!) date yesterday, I took our budget notebook, so we had our annual budget meeting on the way to town and listed our goals for 2011.

I use the envelope system (actually mine is an small accordian file folder). Using cash for everything (started last Aug) has been a great help (that and writing down everything I spend). I would really like to get our grocery and household goods spending down, I was lumping them together but I think I'll seperate them so I can see where the leaks are. I do meal plan and we eat out once a week, usually, but I think we could be spending less :confused3. I buy a lot of fresh veggies, fruit, lean meats, greek yogurt, cheese and almond milk, but I won't compromise on that- I think I'll try to menu plan from the adds more consistently and stock up when the things we use are on sale.

Jan 1 - Movie w/ dh, popcorn

Jan 2 - clearance t-shirts for trip, shelf for ds8's finished Lego masterpieces

I personally don't set a goal of no-buy days.

1. My goal for January is $400. in groceries.
2. No clothing purchases except, need one outfit for DS for a christening we are attending. (Khaki pants, brown shoes should suffice)
3. Gas $100.00
4. My Allowance $100. for all extras.
5. No eating out this month unless it is utilizing a gift card we received as gifts.

We are a family of four, DH, me, DS12, DD10, one dog, two cats and 12 chickens.

Jan 1 $0.00
Jan 2 $47.27 Groceries / $352.73 remaining
$24.00 Gas / $76 remaining
$27.91 Pet smart dog food
$50.34 Target (I bought quicken...I consider that an investment) :teacher:

Thanks for the well wishes. I am feeling a lot better at the moment. We figure it was a quick bug or something I ate. But you are right chicken noodle soup, especially my mommy's, heals everything. I am lucky and my classes do not start until the end of the month as the 2 I need are 14 week ones rather than 16 week ones.

You're having horrible luck, The last time I was posting in this thread you were sick too. Hope you feel better soon. :flower3:

Thanks for the well wishes. I seem to have this natural ability to pick up bugs no matter how much I wash my hands and keep clean. Although two other people I have hung around lately got the same quick 24 hour bug so it must be something going around.

January goal is no 10 $pend days

01-01-11 Spent money :confused3 what the heck? LOL
01-02-11 :flower3: no $pend day #1. Yes, its early, but I'm not feeling well and won't be going anywhere or doing anything this evening.
