January No Buy - let's start the year off right

I have GOT to do this and keep with it this time :). I am going with easy and say 10 no buy days for now.

Jan 1st - No buy
Jan 2nd - $32.51 - After Christmas Sales
Jan 3rd - $52.32 - After Christmas Sales and Blues Game
Jan 4th - No Buy
Jan 5th - No Buy
Jan 6th - $11.32 - McDonalds
Jan 7th - No Buy
Jan 8th - $18.32 - McDonalds

I haven't spent any money (but the days not over :)) and so far I'm almost half way to my 10 no buy days :). Obviously I need to stay away from those After Christmas Sales and McDonalds :) lol

January:
1$0
2$0
3$4.50 (post office), $8.25 (Walmart groceries $1.25 candy)
4$0
5$10 gas
6$42 (gas), $23 (groceries $1.80 Mt. Dew), $6.15 (post office)
7$0
8$4.00 (basketball shorts)
9$10.00 (eye doctor copay)

The 8th was my grocery/bill pay day and I did really good, I wanted McDonald's because I hadn't had time to eat lunch, but I waited and had a salad when I got home. I did buy a pair of basketball shorts on clearance for my son to wear for PE, they were more of a need than a want.

Today I'm actually happy with my spending, I forgot that we changed vision plans and budgeted $30 for my son to go to the eye dr. and get new glasses. His glasses ended up being free and we paid $10 for the exam copay. The receipt said it would have been $550 without insurance  We do pay more for this plan, but it's worth it with 5 of us in glasses.

Not doing the whole month, just shooting for a "no buy" week this week (non-gas, non-grocery, non-bill spending):

Sunday - $0
Monday - $0
Tuesday - $0
Wednesday - $0
Thursday - $0 Was exhausted and REALLY tempted to stop at McDs for dinner on the way home, but forced myself to come home and make dinner instead. :thumbsup2
Friday -
Saturday -

1/1 - $10
1/2 - $215 (this included going to the grocery store and the vet)
1/3 - $0
1/4 - $0
1/5 - $0
1/6 - $0
1/7 - $0
1/8 - $30.50 (gas)
1/9 - $0

So far doing better than I thought! I have to do grocery shopping tomorrow and vet on Saturday so I know I have two spending days coming up and am aiming for no more till Wednesday!

I'd like to take part in this, especially since I have a difficult time with spending. I *want* to save, but have little support, other than my husband. So maybe being part of this group will help?

I don't recall what was spent on days 1-7, so will start with yesterday. I want to have 10 No-Buy days this month.

8: $36 (groceries)

9: $20 (fuel, groceries)

10: $0 (OMG, I had a no-buy day! It helped that I finished walking my laps at the mall before all the stores opened, and didn't go to Best Buy with my oldest son.)

It's definitely getting a lot harder as the week goes on! That vending machine at work starts calling my name every afternoon right about 3pm - the thought "it's just $1" runs through my mind over and over. And a friend at work keeps pushing me to go out to lunch - I have to say I have been REALLY tempted, but so far I have been able to keep to the "next week" line...Knowing that come Sunday I am free and clear to spend (in my normal, relatively conservative manner) is what keeps me going! I know I would have caved by now if it wasn't for that thought. I do like this approach so far - I'm great at short term denial, but find I cave easily if there's no end in sight. :rolleyes1
I feel your pain. Where I work we can use our ID for payroll deductions for everything, 2 full service cafeterias (one of which is right outside my office), gift shop, pharmacy and of course all the vendors that are on campus everyday. I have sworn off spending any money at work. The temptation is killing me. lol

10$0
11$1.28 (redbox for kid's sleepover)

So far I'm under $10 for non-essential spending, not doing too bad if I can just keep away from clearance sales. I did stay out of the dollar store today, I was proud of myself. Redbox was outside of it and I had to wait for someone else to choose a movie and almost went in, but I resisted.
