January 8, 2011 - 7 Night Western Caribbean Sailing

Our names are: Ron, Beckie, Cassie(9), Sam (6) & Ben (4)

We are GTY, so we still do not know our cabin number yeat, but we will let you know as soon as we do.

:welcome: to all the new people!

I'm looking out my window (watching the snow fall :crazy2: ) and thinking... I can't wait till this cruise!

No way!!! Its snowing in Ottawa already!!!! I'm so sorry!!! I know its coming but it does not make me happy... HURRY JANUARY!!!

Hey Tatiana, we are from Ottawa too! Have you booked flights to Orlando yet? I'm having trouble finding any good deals, unless we want to drive down to Syracuse....

Brenda

Alright, experienced cruisers-- I need your help!

I am totally confused on what happens to your luggage. We are flying in to MCO from BOS that morning (praying for no delays!), and we likely will be carrying-on our luggage. We signed up for the DCL ground transfers. (When we arrive at MCO, where is the DCL transfer bus area? Down by ME?)

So... what happens to our luggage? What's the difference between "hand-carrying" and "checked" luggage, as far as the cruise goes? Is it the same bags that you checked on the airplane?
I also read that you can't get into your cabins until 1:30pm. When do they start serving lunch (and where)? Do you have to take all your bags (or at least all your "hand-carried" bags) to lunch with you? What happens to your "checked" bags? When do they appear in your cabin? (If we want to wash up and change before the meet, do we need to make sure to have all those necessities in our hand-carry bags?)

I can't remember at all what we did on our last non-Disney cruise. (Maybe this is the impetus we need to finally get for new luggage for Christmas....)

TIA!

But as of now we are in 5009 just across the hall from ginkybiloba! Wew ill upgard at the port though if we can...

If you do not attach the DCL transfer tags to your luggage then you will have to pick it up. I know that they changed how they did ME a bit over a year ago. There might be a link in the FAQ threads on what the proceedure is. [We always drive so I don't know myself where you actually meet up with DCL reps.] If you put the tags on your bags then you won't see them again until around 3-4 p.m. outside your stateroom. We have had bags arrive after 6 p.m. so I do pack our dinner clothes for the first night in our carry on bag just to make sure we are not wearing our shorts & Ts to dinner. I know that you now can do that but we are not comfortable doing so. Last time we had Palo resies the first night on a 3 day so I had to pack our clothes in the carry-ons.

If you decide not to check your bags with DCL at the airport or at the port then yes, you will have to cart your luggage with you everywhere onboard until the rooms open at 1:30.

They start serving lunch when the ship is cleared for boarding. You have the choice of eating in Parrot Cay or Topsider's the first day for lunch.

If you want to change before dinner for the meet then yes, I would say pack what you need in a carry-on and keep it with you when you board. We always pack the kids' swimsuits so that they can change after lunch in one of the bathrooms near the pool and enjoy the water when it isn't very crowded.

Hi Brenda/Ginkybiloba! Wow! It's so cool that we'll be cruising with someone else from Ontario!!! :thumbsup2

I went for the all inclusive package from Disney. Due to the fact that so many airlines have gone under, I thought it would be best to let DCL take care of the details. We're flying out the night before, and spending the night at the Orlando Hyatt (at the airport).

I had wondered whether we should pack our dinner clothing in our carry-on, and you've confirmed it for me. Thanks.

Of the two choices for lunch on the first day, which do you recommend? Or does it make any difference?

Our first cruise we went to Topsiders and sat outside to eat. On all other cruises we have met friends in Parrot Cay. You will get the same food. The only thing is that we need to go up to deck 9 to get chicken strips for DS to eat in PC. It is the same food on both buffets. The thing I like is that you have a server in PC who will bring you a drink. You are seated and can set down your bags before going to the buffet. At TS you go through the buffet, get your drink [still with your bags] and then find a table.

Brenda, I don't know if this may help, but last year our tablemates were from Montreal and told me they got a smashingly low rate from Montreal to Orlando about a week or so before the cruise.

You might want to check for flights out of Montreal as well.

Or maybe our Lisa, who's a travel agent, can offer some guidance?!

Thanks. I suspect that all we will have with us will be a couple of backpacks or something similar and no kids to keep an eye on so we should be able to go wherever the mood strikes us, though PC sounds more to my liking.

I've always wanted to stop into PC first to eat but Joe has always insisted on going on deck. Well, as we've already had that experience and he owes me for a few things :rolleyes1 we might just make it to PC this time round!

Maybe some of us would like to have a pre-meet meet there?

We're doing the all inclusive package too and staying at the same hotel the night before. I really wish they would send me the flight info already. I want to know what time we get in!

Somehow I missed this question!

What's your favorite Disney songs and movies?

Peter: Aladdin. A friend like me
Sandie: The LIttle Mermaid, Boo Bop Bopbop Bop (I Love You, Too) from Pete's Dragon
Eloise:Lion King, Any song
John:Hercules, One Last Hope

Good afternoon all. I just found this board - I've been a member of another site for years, but somehow missed this one.

Anyway, I just booked a cruise last week for my family and this is it. I'm so excited.

We're in 3 cabins:
me, DH, DS (2 years old at time of sailing)
my parents
my grandfather (94!)

I'm very excited to join everyone.

I have to start reading the rest of this thread, it's crazy long!

As I started........what is a Fish Extender? (excuse the ignorance)

So, I was checking the DCL site yesterday to see what rooms were available. We were booked in a Navigator's Verandah, and when I checked the availability, one of the "secret verandah" (7620) was available. So, I e-mailed Dreams Unlimited to see if they could change my reservation, and within 15 minutes it was done. So, we now have a "full" verandah for the price of a Navigators. Our last Disney Cruise was also in one of these rooms (7120), so I know exactly what to expect.

I am also excited that I will now be on the side of the ship that usually faces CC when we dock.
