January 8, 2006- 4 night Wonder- Anybody else coming with?

I am so proud of myself.

Last night I started to have a cruise nightmare. In my dream, DH came in and said, "C'mon, our ride is here, we need to leave for the airport now!" So we pulled everything quicky together and ran out.

When we got to the airport, we started to approach the ticket counter, and I suddenly realized, "OMG! I forgot our passports and birth certificates!" DH says, "I'll stay here, you go catch a taxi home and grab them"

I'm realizing it's rush hour traffic and if there's too much delay, I could miss the flight! So I run out to the taxi, jump in and say "I have to get home and back QUICK, there's an extra tip in it for you if I make it back in time for my flight!"

The lady (who I think was Phoebe from "Friends") was like "A-OK!" and then proceeds to dink around with stuff in the front seat and sloooowly pulls away from the curb...and we hit a solid line of cars.

So you know what I did?

I said, "Wait, this is a dream. I am NOT going to go through this, it's ridiculous" and poof, I woke up. :rotfl:

This stuff has GOT to stop ;) I blame it on the fact that one time we were driving a 5 hour drive to Dallas so that we could catch a plane the next afternoon for Canada. It was Christmas Eve, so we'd just left my inlaws house at 4 pm. We got about 2 hours out of town when I suddenly realize...OMG, we left all our ski clothes at home! Yep, big garment bag just slung over the side of the couch. So we turned around, drove alllll the way back. I don't think we got into Dallas until around 1am.

Ever since then I am a little freaky when we're packing everything into the car :rotfl:

Travel nightmares are the worst, especially when they have a hit of truth to them. (Forgetting luggage at the house etc.)

My husband always says that all you really need to travel is a toothbrush and a credit card, and the toothbrush is optional :rotfl2: :rotfl:

Thats a good one!!!! :rotfl2: I even pack two or three toothbrushes. :rotfl: (Too many years spent in the dental field.) :teeth: :teeth: :teeth:

Is anybody not getting email notifications when people post to your subscribed threads :confused3

I check my email..... nope, no new posts but actually there are some :confused3

It looks like I will be doing most of the driving when we head down to Florida. It will be me, my son, daughter and parents. We are all licensed drivers and my son will probably take his turns driving. I've never driven that distance before but I won't really get lost. Drive to Detrot, make a left turn onto the I-75 and keep going south :rotfl2:

I booked an airline flight for my husband last night. He is flying down to meet us on the night that we arrive at the POP Century. That way he can work two more days (we have our own business) and that is probably a good idea. He also doesn't really care that much for the drive, so he will only have to drive home from the cruise.

It will be an adventure. This way we can eat at McDonald's if we want because my husband avoids McDonald's at all costs :earboy2:

Branv- we're probably very close to you on Deck 1. I did not do a gty room - but I think I should have since so many got upgrades. We booked with Vacations To Go, so we just picked adjoining cat 10s and were assigned 1067 and 1069. Had I been thinking about this last March, instead of jumping for joy about taking the kids on a cruise, I would have asked for a 12 gty! Can I do that and still get adjoining rooms with an upgrade? :confused3

I picked up some Dramamine for both me and the kids, DH will likely tough it out like last time. I remember the gulf stream around dinner time... seemed like everything was moving but I was standing still!! :crazy2: I could barely eat. So I don't want my kids to have that problem and not enjoy themselves. Should they take it before we set sail, like that morning?

Glad I'm not the only one with "travel dreams." I also dreamt that we left and I forgot stuff at home. But I also have those recurring anxiety dreams where I'm back in college and need to take an exam then I realize I've not attended this class all semester for some unknown reason and I start to panic!! :p

Doing the "under 30 days" dance!! ! :cool1:

Oh my gosh, driving from Canada! DH wouldn't even consider driving from TX

Although, to be fair, once gas prices went up, we realized that with a nights stay at a hotel, a rental car (our car is way too small for a long trip) and the cost of gas, it wasn't that much more expensive for 2 people to fly and rent a car while in FL. It's a good thing it IS just the two of us, b/c airfares are steep these days!

I think since you're doing all that driving, you deserve to buy yourself a satellite radio for Christmas! Let Santa reward you :scratchin

Well, at least after that long drive, you'll look forward to stretching your legs throughout the park! :)

Speaking of, I think I'm going to cave and buy the butt-ugly crocs for our trip. I love shoes, but I love my feet better. Last time in the parks I literally thought I was going to die..creaky hips, agony of dah' feet. And I was in tennis shoes! Has anyone tried them?

Sapphire..other then being miles from the drink station, I'm really psyched about this level. The only thing I've read is that you can sometimes hear the water, but that would be very soothing to me :) The good thing is that if we DO feel a little sick, we're just steps from the Medical Center ;)

If it were just the 2 of us we would have definitely flown but with more people it becomes more expensive and driving is the most economical way to do it.

The drive is not so bad. We treat it as part of the vacation. It is nice to leave home in the cold and snow and every time you get out of the car it feels just a little bit warmer. Well hopefully it does anyways. Once we had snow and ice all the way to the southern part of Georgia :confused3

One of the best things to do for seasickness is to go out on deck and let the wind blow on your face. It really seems to help. Another thing I heard was to always have something in your stomach, even if you feel queasy. Shouldn't be hard to do on a cruise ship ;)

I just saw a neat thing, sad but neat :sad2:

My daughter and I were in the kitchen and we heard a big bang on the patio door. We back onto a field and we have tons of birds and sometimes they run into the door when they are flying :confused3

So I hear the bang and go over to look and see if the bird survived and as I looked out the door, I saw a huge hawk or falcon. It had obviously been chasing a smaller bird and either the little bird or both of them hit the window.

I wish I had approached slower because the hawk saw me and grabbed the other bird and took off with it. Awesome sight to see. Poor little bird

Now there are small feathers all over the yard and big "hawk" feather marks in the snow outside the door.

How come everyone else got upgraded to Cat 9's and I only got to Cat 11.

:sad1:

I'm the one who had all the emotional pain and suffering of being waitlisted by mistake

I'm feeling very sad right now.

Actually not really. I'd have loved to had a Cat 9, at least for my parents since it is their 50th anniversary cruise. But heck, what can ya do?

I'm right there with you!! we've had the same room assignment since I booked in April-7619  not that that's a bad room, but darnit I want an upgrade too!!!

ok, done whining, congrats everyone....I'm just thankful my trip's still on, it was pretty shaky for a couple of days

Crusin - the email thing happens to me a lot too! Don't know why.

Branv - I swear by my Clarks for Disney walking. Our first trip with the kids I wore my Clarks the first day and had no problems. The second day I thought, its going to be a long day - I should wear my sneakers. Well, I had huge blisters that night. I put my Clarks on for the rest of the week and had no trouble. Our second trip I only packed Clarks. I love them!!!

Doin' the dance :cool1:  :cool1:  30 days til we cruise! 25 days til we check into our Disney Hotel!

Morning all.

Need some snow :confused3

We've got plenty to spare :teeth:

I've been very sick for the last few days. The only time I felt decent is when I was lying absolutely still. So I missed alot I'm in 6099 which I think is a standard inside. Not an upgrade but what the heck we'll still go :rotfl: . Congratulations on the upgrades everyone. :Pinkbounc
Cruisin I don't need no more snow. At all. Really. ;)
It's snows like crazy plus it is colder then witchsicles here then next day it all melts and is a slushy icky mess. Then it's witchsicles and snow again so all that slushy icky mess is a frozen slushy icky mess with snow on top.
I'm evil though everytime somebody complains I tell them I'm going to Florida with a great big smile. :teeth: You should see the looks I get. :earseek: I get asked alot to pack people in my luggage. I just tell em "Sorry they don't make luggage that big!" :rotfl2:

Sorry to hear that you've been so sick, but better now than a few weeks from now ::yes::

Your weather sounds just like the weather we have here in my part of Canada.

No thank you, you can keep your snow :) Ok, well actually I wouldn't mind it, b/c whenever it snows, it always melts entirely within a day or two, so we just get a day off work/school and then we're back to normal. Our problem is that we rarely get snow, what we get is ice and you can just IMAGINE how well we all drive in that. On Thursday we had some overpasses with a thin layer of ice and the whole city shut down...it's really for the best b/c we're all so clueless you end up with a kajillion wrecks :rolleyes1

Though it was funny, I had a final on Thursday that was delayed an hour b/c of the ice. When I came out, it had started melting, so as I was walking under a big Oak tree I got clocked on the head by a falling chunk of ice. We just don't understand these hazards.

Sick!! There is no sick for the holidays!! But Cruisin' is right, better now then later! I hope you get better! DH gets sick EVERY December, so I was really happy when he just got a this week sinus infection :rotfl: I was like "hey, all you need is some antibiotics and you're dandy...and it's way before our trip!"

Cruisin' that is really weird about those birds! It must have been a sight! Poor little birdy, I know it's the circle of life, but I'm a softy. I could never be a naturalist, I tried to watch "March of the Penguins" a few days ago and I couldn't take it. I was like "Somebody go and save those poor Penguins!!" I had to hide behind my laptop while DH finished watching it :teeth:

txSleepingBeauty - what happened??? Why did you almost not make the trip?
well, to make a long stroy short, my mom wasn't sure if she was going to be able to make it because a bunch of muckety-mucks MIGHT be coming to her hospital that week. Unfortunately she didn't find this out til after the 75 day mark, so no deposit back if she did have to cancel. I was going to take a friend from work with me instead, but that would have cut my 9 day vacation into a 4 day vacation, and I'd rather go with my mom.

Thankfully her boss(who was out of town herself when they found out about the muckety mucks) said are you crazy, you've been planning this trip for 9 months,go go go !! so all is resolved now :cool1:

speaking of planning, anybody used the I-10 corridor lately? we're driving from Houston (hey cruisin want a ride? :moped: ) and aren't sure of the shape of the road.....

JOyCrazy--I sure hope that you get to feeling 100% better soon! I agree witht the others who said that at least it's now. Maybe you will get it all out of your system and be in great shape for the cruise!

TXSleepingBeauty--I am really glad to hear that everything worked out for your Mom to be able to go. I am sure that ya'll are going to have such an awesome time together.

It would be cool to get some snow here, but like branv, all we ever usually get is ice. If we do get snow, it's very little and doesn't last long. Of course it always gets crazy here whenever we have any ice or snow. You can't find any bread or milk at the store because everyone goes into a frenzy. And of course the schools always close, but for some reason my work is always open...imagine that!

I can't believe that we are under 30 days to go...It's getting closer and closer. And so is Christmas. We just got our tree and other decorations up today. I think this is the longest that we have ever waited. Of course, I didn't realize that it was so close either. I thought that I was doing good until I realized that there is only 13 more days to go. I guess I've been thinking about this cruise WAY TOO MUCH! :earseek: :earseek:

Only 13 days until Christmas :earseek:

I hadn't really even thought about it.

I've been too focused on what's going to happen AFTER Christmas ;)

I just want to get Christmas done and over with.

Exactly my thoughts!

txSleepingBeauty - glad it all worked out with your mom. Sounds like she has a good boss.

Everyone, go ahead and get sick NOW! We don't want anyone sick on the cruise and feeling lousy. We also don't want your germs :goodvibes Have I mentioned that I am a little freaky about germs??

I'd love to have a little snow around here in February...we'll need a break from school then! Please send some our way when the time is right. Thanks!
