January 8, 2006- 4 night Wonder- Anybody else coming with?

Not me, I am a traditional gal. I like our Thanksgiving meal to be the same thing we've been having since I was little. My DH and I tried deep frying a turkey one Thanksgiving and it just wasn't the same. (We deep fried a few turkeys since and they are delicious - it's just doesn't seem right on Thanksgiving.) So we will be sticking to our same menu and loving every bite!

I brined a turkey last time I made it, and talk about juicy! Slightly different, but still cooked the same :)

But I would give a whole heck of alot to go to one of the nice hotels around here that serve a schmancy thanksgiving dinner...anything but the inlaws!

I know I've talked about it on here before, but I just remembered something else. They always have stuffing....sans onions, celery, sage or broth in it...because ONE person doesn't like those things. Now I could get leaving one of those things out. But all of them? They crumble the crap out of a cornbread, add some canned cream of chicken (??), water and maybe some salt and pepper.

So essentially what we're eating is Gruel.

For the last 5 years I have been completely traumatized by this mush they pass off as my beloved stuffing. Oh the horror!

Branv....Could you possibly plan a quick "get away" to avoid the horror of the inlaw's dinner???? You get away could even be to a nice hotel in which there is a WONDERFUL Thanksgiving Dinner that is being served in one of the restaurants. Or Thanksgiving Day could be a day when you could start a diet. :rotfl:
Hang in there, you'll be eating well on our cruise. :teeth:

Hallelujah and pass the biscuits! (I think UGFan will know that saying ;) )

Just found out that Turkey Day is at his family's house in Houston. DH decided there was no way in H-e-double hockey sticks that we're driving to and from Houston in one day (yeah, it's only like a 3 hour drive, but on Thanksgiving, no thank you). He's going to spin it also that we have finals the following week.

Now technically they're the following week after the following week, but you get my drift :rolleyes1

Now I've done it twice, but there is no way I am cooking thanksgiving dinner for just the two of us again. Too much work followed by too much clean up (though it would be nice to pull out the wedding china for about the first time in about 2 years ;)...I think we've used it about 6 times total).

Guess I'll start looking for hotel brunches. :bounce:

P.S.

Since today is 11/8...you know what that means?

C'mon, I know you've been counting out every second!

TWO MONTHS UNTIL WE BOARD THE SHIP!!!

This time then, I should be about to walk into my stateroom having just stuffed myself silly.

I can't believe the cruise is just TWO months away! I bet time is now just going to fly by.

Branv.....Congrats on your Thanksgiving plans. I'm sure you'll find a nice place to have dinner. Yeah!!! you will now get a good meal.

My Mom called today to find out if we were coming over for Thanksgiving. It will be a nice traditional dinner. My two requests were for lots of Chestnut Stuffing and hmmmm clam dip. I know it sounds icky to some, including my DH, but I just love clam dip.

Oh, I know exactly what you are talking about, branv! Nuttin' like em'!

attagirl, I know exactly what you mean about doing the "traditional" thing, although we have started frying the turkey more in the past few years. But we always stick to all the other regular stuff...you know the dressing and giblet gravy, cranberry sauce, etc! Yikes, I'm making myself very hungry!

I can't belive that the time is going by so fast. I am really getting more and more excited everyday! Only 52 more days to go! I am asking for a new digital camera for Christmas so that I can use it on the cruise! :teeth:

Oh, my mom makes the best clam dip...now I want some...thanks Vicki for adding to the cravings!

UGAFan0892 - Okay, when you fry the turkey, how do you get good gravy??? We've always had to use a mix and it isn't the same as the drippings from the oven baked bird.

This is bad to admit, but my Mom always makes the gravy. I'm really not sure how she makes it. I can't quite master the dressing and gravy, but I like to do the sweet potatoes and all the fixins!

Is anyone else here confused about the new dress code and the "themed" nights? I know that we won't be participating in the dressing up on Pirate night, but from what I read on the DCL site, there is now a "dress-up" night. I'm so confused. :confused3 We're already dressing up for Palo, so if "dress-up" night falls on a different night other than Palo, then we have to dress up again??? :earseek: HELP!

Where did you see that on DCL? Since my laptop crashed and burned and my DH hasn't gotten around to getting a new hard drive installed, I've been using his and I can't find anything! Not that a different computer should matter, but somehow it does! :)

Dining Dress requirements vary by venue or theme night on your cruise. In general, most meals are "Cruise Casual" — no shorts, swimwear or tank tops. Most cruises also have special theme nights with additional attire requirements. Here's a breakdown of these events by cruise itinerary.

On 4-night cruises:
First night: cruise casual — no shorts, swimwear or tank tops
One pirate or tropical night (deck party)
One "dress-up night" — jacket for men, dress or pantsuit for women
Final night: cruise casual — no shorts, swimwear or tank tops

This is what I found...see if it makes any sense to you.

That's why I asked if anyone was going to point at me if I wore the same thing my Palo night as I was wearing the dress up night :) So I guess since Pirate night is Tues, that must mean that Mon (Nassau) night is dress up night.

Do you know I've never had clam dip...but I bet I'd like it :) I have a dip recipe involving smoked oysters that's yummy...but talk about a heinous color! Great on toasted bagels.

I've also never eaten a Chestnut. Always wondered what they taste like. We're pecan people here in TX...state tree dontcha know ;) (that's puh-cahn to you lady, no pee-can's around here! ;) )

I never really have liked sweet potatoes or cranberry sauce either...or pumpkin pie. I know, what's wrong with me?! But my family must haves are deviled eggs, side dishes of cornbread stuffing, broccoli cheese rice casserole....and drrr..of course pecan pie. Oh sure, other side dishes come and go to the round up, but those are staples. Mmmmmmmm....

Ohhh all this food talk is getting to me. It's 6:00 pm and my dinner consists of a Atkins Advantage bar. Whooo hooooo. DH is out of town on business. I'm finishing my packing and cleaning the house and then I'm off to join him and then off to Disneyland. I will not sleep much tonight since DH is out of town and I'm excited about Disneyland. ::MickeyMo

Roasted chestnuts are great. I can't even describe it but it's good!!

Just bumping our post back up...somehow got shuffled to the 2nd page! Have a great weekend, everyone! :flower:

Ok, so confess...how often do YOU check the dcl site to see if your cabin number has been assigned? :rolleyes1

Just trying to figure out if I'm an obsessive freak or if we're all skewed a little bit :earboy2:

I haven't checked yet...I am waiting until Dec 1. Why I don't know, but it seemed like a good date.

Oh sure...if you want to be RATIONAL about it. ;)

Sorry I dropped off the edge of the world guys. I got addicted to pogo.com. Wow you guys have made alot of pages in the meantime. It's coming up so fast. I'm getting into panic mode. A la somethings gonna happen and we won't get to go.
