January 8, 2005 Magic Cruise - Let's Get Ready to Cruise!

A friend of mine who is cruising this Saturday received her docs two weeks before, Thanksgiving weekend. She original booked onboard then switched to an online travel agency.

I know when we did our 2003 cruise we got our docs six weeks in advance booking directly through Disney.

Ok, I just found out that NASA is having a rocket launch on Jan. 8th at 2:59 pm. I wonder what type of traffic we are going to have getting to the ship?

I'll bet that the view from the 9th deck of the Magic will be "magical" for this event.

We are arriving by DCL bus from WDW so I hope to be there by noon to board the ship.

I know I promised pics from my WDW trip and I just loaded them on my computer. They will have to be condensed in size to post on my web site and I hope to do that this week. I'll give you the site when I'm done.

See ya soon!!!

Brack, I cannot wait to see the pics.

Ok, I spoke with DCL again today and was told again that they would arrive via UPS 10-14 days before cruise. She did tell me that I can call back around that time period and get a tracking number. I agree that being around the holidays and the crazy holiday shipping, I wish they would just go ahead and send them.
Anxiously waiting!

On our previous cruises our doc's came much earlier than 14 days! If this is the case then it will be almost Christmas before the doc's arrive!!!! That is disappointing.

I just saw the countdown and it is 30 DAYS! How cool is that?

Any more thoughts about the meet? I'll bring my camera for a picture. I understand that Shutters can process digital pictures now so I should be able to get a print made and can email a digital copy later.

Enjoy this time of the Christmas season. See ya soon.

The Kennedy Space Center web site is stating the rocket launch is at 1:39 pm. Since so many of us would like to watch, how about we meet, say on the back area of Deck 7 or someplace on Deck 9 or 10 and watch together?

:cool1: Lisa, that sounds like a great idea, I know we will all be busy and maybe we can make plans for another more in-depth meet on Sunday. Where in CT are you located? When are you going down to FL? I just heard on the forecast that it is going to get really cold here in the northeast next week and maybe snow on Monday night and Tuesday!!! I just cannot wait for this trip. Its awful everyone is talking about the holidays and I am like oblivious.

Talk to everyone soon.

:blu Hi everyone, you know I realize I am obsessing about these cruise doc's but I was laying in bed and at about 1:25 a.m. I realized that if we are to get the doc's fourteen days out that is "Christmas Day". I was like oh no they really should send them earlier. My DH just rolls his eyes. He's like what's in those doc's anyway and I just really don't know since I've never been on a cruise before. Sheltered life or something!!!! Well anyway, I sure do hope they send them soon. Maybe someone can shed a little light on what they include and entail.

Thanks,
Marylee

Marylee, you sound just like me! LOL. Does anyone know how they send the docs, is it regular mail or is it FedEx or UPS or anything? I don't know what is in them either but I'm sure someone here will tell us!

We changed our plans slightly. We were planning to drive up from Universal Studios on Sat. morning, but now we are going to Universal two days earlier and will be staying in Cape Canaveral at the Radisson on Friday night instead.

Oh wow, it is getting SO close!!!!!! :cool1:

 Skywalker, I think they send them out UPS, that's what I thought I heard. What is the proximity of Port Canaveral to Cape Canaveral? Does anyone here know? The reason I am asking is that my DS is 5 and in his school they are studying the solar system during January and it would be so cool for him to be able to bring in photo's or a video of the space shuttle going off. I really hope we get to see that. I feel like a selfish princess I'm not really that way at all but I am totally excited.

Write soon everyone!
Marylee

I'm fighting the urge to start packing NOW! LOL.

How is everyone doing?

So was that the official word on our meeting, will it be for the launch then?

Talk to you all soon,

Allison.

Hello all!
Just think, 4 Sundays from today we will be enjoying our first day at sea. :cool1:
If we will be able to see the launch from deck 7, that may be a great place to go. Does the back of the ship face the space center when docked at PC? This may be a good question for Verandah Man.
Allison, were you able to change your hotel res. on Fri. night without a problem? I don't think I can change mine. Disney's cancellation policy is like 45 days out. Oh well. We'll just do the best we can.
So, does the port open at 10 or 10:30?
Staci

Oh, another thought. Is that new movie Racing Stripes (the one about the racing zebra) a Disney movie? It comes out in theaters while we are on the cruise. Maybe we will be there for the premier.

In the past when we have cruised, the verandah from deck 7 is facing the Space center. We should have a perfect view from there. Brack, where are deck 9 were you thinking of a quick meet to watch the rocket shuttle?

We, too, have changed our traveling plans. We are now flying in Thursday night, rather than Friday morning. Staci, thank your employer for me for dropping the airfare so much for the flight. :D Even with the cost of a hotel for the night, switching was cheaper than keeping our previous airfare. Thursday night we are staying at a hotel close to the airport that offers a shuttle service. Friday morning my DH will go back to the airport to pick up the rental van then we'll head out for Port Canaveral. We all are anxious to leave the cold New England weather. Though I heard Saturday it was 60º in Orlando, brr.

The port opens at 10:00 am. You should see my group of nine with their Disney cruising tshirts on about that time in the terminal. :cool1:

Marylee, I live near the Storrs campus of the University of CT.

Lisa, I am thrilled to hear that the priced dropped for you. That is great. I just read today on our work hotline that AA is going to raise fares due to high fuel costs.
Friday we will be enjoying WDW. Is anyone else going to the parks?
Sat, our plan is to be at the port at 10:00 as well. I will look for 9 people in matching shirts. Not too sure what my crew is wearing yet.

In our past three times to cruise the doc's came by UPS and were sitting on my front porch. It would be really neat for them to arrive on Christmas Eve but I really would like them earlier.

A good spot is just aft (back) of the second stack over the Mickey pool. It will be easy to switch sides depending on which direction the launch happens.

I hope we arrive on time because we do not get picked up at the Caribbean Beach Resort until noon!

Christie,

Welcome to the Jan. 8th cruise. I'll add your information to the attendee list.

Brack, that would be sad if you missed the launch.

:Pinkbounc Yes, I am jumping for joy, three weeks from right now I will be on a bus from Providence to Boston to go to WDW for four days before meeting up with all of you. Lisa, I have been to UCONN before it is really a nice little town. Do you ever come to Providence? I cannot even believe I just asked that, but Providence has become a wonderful little city, great food lots of nice cultural events, I love living in the city. Oh well, enough of that, yes Brack it would be nice to get those docs on Christmas Eve. What a way to kick into high gear, one fear though, I am having Christmas Eve at my home with about 25 people and if those docs came those people might be very hungry because I will be overcome with excitement!!!! Where is everyone going to be over the holidays?

Write soon,

Marylee

I am so excited it feels like Christmas morning!
