January 31, 2009--St, Croix/St. Thomas

Oh my gosh. How stupid of me. No, not my 12th. My 10th. (sigh)

Unless I can squeeze in two more before January! Hey, maybe I should try! :lmao:

My bad.

Ohiominnie-we are just down the hall from you on the ship. We are in 6022. I wanted to get a balcony room, but we decided on an oceanview. My husband thought with our little one only being just 16 months, he wasn't to keen about getting the balcony. To me...I don't care I just want to be on vacation.

Lynn----is it just you and your husband going? My husband and I went in February of 2007 before we had our DD. They do so many things just geared towards adults. It is great. They have beer tastings, wine tastings and tequila/margarita tastings on the ship that you have to sign up for and an extra charge, but soooo worth it. We will also be on the ship again for superbowl weekend and they have a huge Superbowl party on deck and at one of the bars. It is a blast. Plus they have Palo's adults only restaurant which is an additional charge, but totally worth it....fantastic food and a really nice atmosphere. Disney really did it up, whether you do or do not have children, this cruise is for everyone. We loved it and are so excited to be going back.

We are heading to Disney in October for 11 nights and are taking my dad for his first trip to Disney every, plus our daughter's first trip. We love Disney!!!

Look forward to chatting more on this great board.

jb....we actually were just in 6522. The exact same room you'll be in, just on the other side of the ship. Nice room.
(btw, I have a blog and posted some pictures of my trip today... www.pediascribe.com )

And I totally agree....LOTS to do for adults. In fact, our sailing partners this last trip were on their 11th Disney cruise and they don't have kids. (maybe that's why I thought 11th and not 9th) We've sailed with them several times before (actually met on the DIS and are lifelong friends now) and they have a great time!

Hey! We're heading to Disney in October for 12 nights! We'll be there starting on the 12th. I *think* we'll be at Old Key West. I say *think* b/c dh made the ressie and I think that's what we all agreed on. :)

: Yes it is just my husband and I as we do not have kids yet. Originally we weren't going to take a cruise as we were booked to stay at VWL from May 18th - 25th. However, on April 20th I had an accident which left me with a broken left ankle and right foot (I can now say that I am the proud owner of 7 screws and a 5 inch plate). Of course we had to cancel our trip which left us with points to use. We have long said, as DVC members, we would love to take a Disney Cruise. So we jumped at the chance to go to St. Croix. Seems like it was meant to be huh? Just a shame I had to break my bones to get there ;)

Thank you so much for the post! I did not even realize this was superbowl weekend! WHAT A BLAST! I have read about Palo and am definitely going to book reservations online as soon as I am able to (I think 75 days out, haven't decided between the champagne brunch and dinner, any suggestions?). I am very interested in the wine tasting and I am sure my hubby would be interested in the Margaritas. How and when would I sign up for this? I am more excited than ever!

One more thing...can someone please explain what DD and DH are?

Lynn

dd, dh, ds.....

"dear" or "disney" daughter
or husband
or son

depends on the day. sometimes another "d" word fits better! :)

We MUCH prefer brunch over dinner. For one reason, we hate missing out on the regular dining room (and would prefer not to do both regular dining room and Palo in one night) and we find the brunch food really really good! Some people prefer dinner more. You could do BOTH! :)

DH....ah...OK....makes total sense. Thanks!

Yeah I have read good things about the brunch, I took a look at the menus for brunch and dinner and it seems brunch would be a better fit for us. Guess my mind is made up :cloud9:

I have also heard good things about the main dining. Seems like there is a pretty good variety and cruisers have given rave reviews, especially, about Animator's. I am really looking forward to the whole experience. :woohoo:

Hello All!

Another quick question: Formal Night on the cruise. I have read a lot of other posts (I have found these can be quite heated) about the dress code. I am just curious, for formal night would one recommend a long gown or short "little black dress"? I have both but don't want to be "over-dressed".

While I want to adhere to the dress code I do not wish to be "over-dressed" and feel out of place. Since I am a "first timer" I haven't gotten to experience this for myself and would like some input :goodvibes

Lynn

Ah, formal night.

Whose vacation is it? Yours? Are you going to wear something clean? Decent? Not torn and dirty?

Then you're good. If someone has a problem with what you're wearing, it is exactly that.....THEIR problem.

I have seen the full range of dress worn on formal night. From wedding gowns, to princess-ballroom type gowns. To little black dresses. To jeans. Yes. Jeans.

Here's my formal night dress:
249015_1_41

$50. LLbean. And a string of pearls. I never feel over or under dressed. I'm too busy enjoying my family and table mates and servers and FOOD to care if the people at the next table are turning their noses up at my $50 LLBean dress.

And jeans. Yeah, we cruised with my dad once. As we got ready for the first night's dinner, he knocked on our door. Wanted to know if what size pants my dh wore. Because he forgot to pack ALL of his pants. Yes, he had shirts and ties and his jacket. But the only pants he had were jeans. Thank goodness it was January and he came from Ohio otherwise his only pants may have been shorts. So he wore jeans to Palo, and to formal night. And we totally didn't care. We had a great job. And no one (seemed to) care. And if they did......their problem. ;)

Sorry if my last post sounded curt. I guess now that I'm 40 (gasp) I'm getting over worrying about what other people think about me. :lmao:

Of course, I want all of my DIS-cruisers to like me. ;)

Sounds good to me! The short dress I have almost looks like yours except it's sleeveless.

I understand. From the other posts I read people are really touchy about dress code (not that I think you post was touchy, just an observation of other dis-cruisers). I figured I could get a good opinion from you all since you have been on the cruise before.

Honestly the reason I asked is b/c when my dh and I dined at Victoria & Alberts (which of course is at Disney's Grand Floridian) we actually saw people get turned away for dinner b/c of their attire. I wasn't entirely sure how stict the dress code was on the ship in light of what I saw at the Grand. Guess that answered my question ;)

Thanks!

Hello!

Been crazy busy over here.

Heading out for NC in the morning.

Hey to everyone out there...life has been a little hecktic lately. Hope everyone is doing great. Also, it's really amazing some of the stuff you can find out on the board. I have really got some great tips from other cruisers. As always, if anyone has any tidbits of info certainly pass them along :)

Lynn

Hi fellow cruise mates!! also checkin' in to say Hello! This time of year can be a bit busy. My 4 year old son just finished up his first year of preschool yesterday....they had a little celebration which was so cute! We are all very excited to cruise again this will be our 6th Disney cruise and my sons second...he will also turn 5 years old on Thursday, (day at sea) February 5th...he is sooo excited!! We have a trip planned to the World in August staying at Saratoga Springs. Can't wait to sit by the pool and enjoy! Anyone else have any recent trips booked?
Take care, Laurie :)

Hey all...just checking in to see how everyone is doing. Cannot wait for this cruise. It will be mine and my husband's second Disney cruise and our daughter's first. She will be 16 months when we are on the ship. She is 8 months now and doing so many exciting things. She will probably be running around by the time we are on the ship. It is going to be a great time. Someone asked if anyone had future trips planned besides our cruise.....we are heading to Disney in October for 12 days....a week after our DD's 1st birthday!!! We decided to take a road trip as we invited my dad to go with us. My mom passed away almost two months ago and we thought it would be great for my dad to go on a vacation. He was my mom's caregiver for 30+ years as she had MS. She's in a better place and my dad deserves this vacation and we are treating him to this great trip. We are staying at Saratoga Springs...two studios(we have our own room and got my dad his own room). My dad as never been to Disney World and it is somewhere he said he would always love to see and we figured there would be no better time than the present. He's pretty excited.....he's even going to Cinderella's Once Upon A Time Breakfast and Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party with us. It should be a good time. Just wanted to share our next exciting trip. Can't wait for this cruise though because in February it will be another freezing cold winter here in Michigan!!! Hope everyone is doing well.

cruisin - We (DH, DD, DM,DB) are going to the AKV (or I guess technically it's still AKL) for three days in August. My DM is turning 50 so we figured this would be a treat for her, she has been to Epcot, MGM, and MK but never to AK. Since she loves coasters we figured it would be the perfect opportunity to take her to ride Everest :scared1:

jb - First, sorry for your loss :worried: Wow! I bet your dad is really looking forward to it. One of my good friends moms had MS and I know how hard it was on her Dad. He definitely deserves this. I hope you guys have a wonderful time. You will have to let us know just how much he loved it when you guys get back.

penguin--right now we have an october trip planned--starting October 12th for 12 nights. Staying at OKW, I believe. But that may change as we may be moving to FL and that will be about the time we're trying to settle in and start new jobs. Still waiting to find out.

jb--sorry for your loss. This is going to be a wonderful trip for your dad. I'm sure he could use the pixie dust about now. :)

We finally decided...and booked today for the January 31st! :cool1: :cool1: :woohoo: It will be me, DH, and DD7 (but she'll be 8 at cruise time). We have booked one of the sideways rooms on Deck 6. Does anyone know where I can get a pic of that? The ones on the sticky thread have been deleted.

jezebella - I think I located a few pic's of a sideways room on the following thread. Sorry I couldn't find more.
