January 3, 2011 - 5 night Bahamas Sailing

Bummed that I just found Disboards 4 days before cruise. Psyched about our first Disney cruise!

Question: We have two daughters- 13 and 16. They grew up going to WDW every year and still love Disney. Thanks to nature and life, they are now more interested in dancing, hanging out, texting and (gasp!) boys than they are Mickey and Ariel. They're a little worried that a Disney cruise will be too "kiddie" for them.

I noticed the teen hangout club. Is that the best place for them to try to make quick friends? Is there some kind of teen meetup the first day?

Thanks!

Well our surprise went moderately well. My DH had a migraine Christmas Eve morning so he was still pretty foggy last night when we opened our gifts. The cruise of course was the big surprise. Then G & G are coming on Wednesday to "celebrate Christmas with us". We were going to give the girls shirts on that night that say "Celebrating G & G's first Disney Cruise" G & G joining us was another part of the surprise.

So DD #1 opened a box with a paper in it that said "U" DD #2's paper said,
"2", then both got another gift to open. DD #1's said, "Are Going", and DD #2 had a 3D model of the Magic (I got this darling pattern from a Dis post). They were so excited. I said, "We're leaving a week from tomorrow (today)" and DH blurted out, "AND G & G ARE COMING TOO!". ARGH! Oh well, it does make it easier for me to make those list minute magnets for G & G's door etc.

How did everyone elses surprises go?

Also, does anyone have a 13-15 yo girl who might want to e-mail back and forth a few times this week to get to know our daughter (just turned 15)? She usually gets aquainted through our meet thread and asked me today if there was anyone her age that she could e-mail.

See you all in just over a week!
Suz

Hi Suz.. just saw your post about your daughter. We're first time Disney cruisers and my 13 and 16 year old daughters are worried about making friends (even though they're both very outgoing). It may be too late, but if your daughter wants to exchange e-mail or text info feel free to PM me (I don't have enough posts to PM you).

Thanks!

Steve, welcome to the boards and the cruise. We are having a DISmeet at Monday 4:30PM on deck 10. It is just after the Safety drill and before the sail away party. There are a few teens sailing in our group based on the FE List. As with teens they may or may not be around during the meet.

DCL offers enough for all ages to have a good time. I do not have a teen, but the teen hangout would be my first suggestion along with the basketball court (Deck 10 forward).

Back in March, my family took our first cruise with Dinsey. My 16 year old complained the whole time how boring it was going to be, how its for kids, blah blah blah.....and THEN WE BOARDED the ship!!! All I had asked of him was to go check out the teens club and it might not be bad. OMGosh, he had the BEST time in the teens club!!! He made sooo many new friends that he is still friends with on facebook and he is even friends with one of the counselors. He said our next family cruise has to be Disney! :) On the first night I think they have a getting to know you time in the teens club. I would encourage them to go check it out!

Welcome to the boards by the way!

Mommyofthreeboys: Did you feel the earthquake this morning? We felt it here in Cincinnati. They said it originated in Indiana.

I sure did!!! It woke me up because the bed was shaking. It wasn't very strong and didn't last that long but it is still such a weird feeling.

Excellent... Thanks!

FE's finally done. Now to pack. I guess pack everything because who knows what kind of weather we're going to have. Can't wait to meet everyone & hang out. I hope you enjoy your fishes. (I know the grown ups will :thumbsup2)

Hi everyone!

So we JUST booked this cruise last week and didn't know about this whole cruising culture! The Fish Extender thing sounds totally awesome and I'm sad we can't really participate. But would it be ok if we just brought goodies for other peoples'? Or is that creepy? It is just my fiance (we are getting married in WDW in May) and I cruising, so we don't need goodies anyway, but I LOVE making up goodies for other people. Also, I read that you can't use any adhesives on your door, if you decorate, but that magnets are ok. Is that true? Will we really meet people who will come by and leave us messages on our whiteboard like in college?

So excited!

Us too! We'd love to drop you off an FE gift and write on your wipe off board :) Promise not to write the kind of messages reminiscent of college though!! ;)

Awesome. We'll try to come up with something clever in the way of magnets. :) We'll be in stateroom 1064, on Deck 1. I just printed the FE list so we can try to get goodies made!
