January 3, 2008 3 Night Wonder

Hey DVCers...did ya'll use points for the cruise? we found it to be a pretty good value as we had about 200 developer points that we needed to use. I also paid cash for our 7yo and that was much less than the point cost. I work in the travel industry and the DVC cash rate was even better than the discount that Disney provides to us. Yea DVC!!

EDuke - I am so sorry that you guys felt ill. It was really amazing how much the ship rocked. My DH and DS12 went out on deck at one point to get freash air and they literally had to hold onto the hand rails (the ones mounted to the ship, not the ones at the edge) so that they would not be swept to the sides. Needless to say they stayed out there about one minute.

I am no expert, but I do beleive that the extremely high seas were a rare occurence. We are still going forward with a 7 night and will hope that we sail on glassy water! I found the movement of the boat to be sort of fun but I am in the extreme minority on that one. I did have great anxiety that my kiddos would get sick. My DH could hardly watch while I ate a big dinner at AP on the first night. Sea sickness has yet to strike me but I should "never say never"!

BTW, we had dining rotation of APT and skipped T to go to Palo. Our servers were Agus and Allen. They were kind and friendly but the food was still a disappointment. May I recommend that no one ever try the Gnocchi vegetarian dish at PC. Yuck with a capital Y. i am not vegetarian but usually love any dish prepared with gnocchi but this was just weird.

Well I had better go get some work done so that I can pay for that 7 night cruise! :grouphug:

Hey Global, Which 7 night did you pick? We have tossed around the Western but now are a little hesitant.. We all agree that 2 stops a CC would be a dream come true - even worth the woozies! We paid cash for the cruise used our points for the pre cruise SS stay. We had 6 with us and did a cat 3 w/ adjoining cat 4 - worked really well for us. Like I siad, our 1st cruise was sick-free so maybe this was a fluke. :sail:

Hi eduke: we booked the Jan.3, 2009 St. Croix trip. But....we are now thinking that we may switch to the Oct. 18, 2008 western trip. We really like the ports of the western itinerary better than the St. Croix. We would like to go to 3 ports (Key west, Cozumel, Grand Cayman) instead of just 2 (St. Croix & Marten). The St. Croix has 3 full days at sea and that seems a little much for the mega money. Our kids want to see lots of places and aren't too interested about "just floating around" as they call it. Too many decisions!!

If we did Oct. 18, we could take the kids out of school for that week and then they have a week off for fall break the next week. We could do the cruise and then go to WDW (on points) for a week. We have never been gone more than 8 nights and we think that we would love to try being gone for a longer vacation. DH is a Realtor and things slow down by mid-October so it is a good time for him to get away. Of course, the real estate market cant get much slower than it is right now so we may end up "vacationing" at home while praying for the media to zip it about the "horrible state of real estate"!! :scared1:

Are you going to try the 7 night?

We are debating the 7 night. We also like the itinerary of Key West etc. My kids don't want to spend too many days at sea especially after being sick because of the motion. We would really like to do a double CC cruise as that is our favorite day of the whole cruise. We are trying to arrange around 1 high schooler & a college student's schedules and so far it isn't working out well for time off together. We can't take our son out of school he goes to a prep and they don't allow it. So idk.....We were debating a Jan 09 sailing. Will keep up good vibes for the economy and real estate...
