January 28, 2012-do you believe in MAGIC?

Hey all! I made my reservations last night online for Park and Cruise. If you reserve online before the 5th they are having a special for $4.99 a day! Normal price is $6.99 a day with reservations and parking at the port is $15 a day! They confirmed on their Facebook page that you just need to have the reservation made and you'll get that price.

WOW! What a great deal! Have you done this before? Is it safe? This will save us a TON of $$!!! Thank you for posting this!

We are going to arrive the night before since we are driving down from GA. Anyone else coming in early? We are going to stay at the Hilton Cocoa Beach and just take a shuttle over to the cruise ship. We figured taking a pre-cruise beach visit will be nice to start off the vacation. Less than 30 days!!!:banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana:

I only know this is the place that DISers talk about all the time. I have never read about any problems. We plan of course to leave anything we don't bring on the ship with us in the trunk of the car, etc. But it is gated and I think there is someone there 24 hours. It is not covered, but we are fine with that as we don't have a garage at home so our cars are never covered.

I made the excursion reservations for Bernards Tours in St Maarten and Doubloon in St Thomas--looks like the last minute stuff is finally coming together! We are flying down, so only had to worry about transfers to POR the night before. We are really getting excited!:cool1:

It's coming up fast now! Yaaayyy!!!! I've been working alot of overtime to make extra spending money for vacation. My daughter is not thrilled with me working so much, but when she has extra spending money she'll be happy. Only a couple more weeks of busting my hump, then I'll have 3 weeks off! I am sooooo excited!! :goodvibes

I know about working extra.....Im starting to get tunnel vision for 1/28...Gotta knock a bunch of bills out early as we are driving down and its about 11 days total for us....Jeepers this is adding up quick....cruise $3000, gas $350, Palo's for 4 $80, rasul $89, car rental on island $80, food for drive down and drive back $80 etc, etc....by golly im going to be bold and ask for key lime pie every supper!!

YES it is coming sooner then we realize. I have to say I am on the computer every day just looking at Disney things. LOL! The only bad thing is the 8 days will FLY by way to fast! Maybe our next will have to be longer.
I just had back surgery 2 months ago and the Dr had said I would be in a wheel chair on the cruise. I am please to say I am doing great and actually was released a month early to go back to work. YAY! So I have a lot to be thankful and anxious for.
We to are flying down the day before. We are from Ohio and you never know what the weather is going to be like so it's better to be there and be ready as the ship will not wait for us.
We are staying at the Holiday Inn Express. It's the same one we stayed at 3 years ago. We are taking the Cocoa Beach Shuttle to port. Also the same one we used.
I wish all of you a great NEW YEAR's begining and will see you on board!! :cheer2:

As for the Disney stuff, I have been watching the Magic sail out on Saturdays while I count the days....
I am glad that you will be well enough to make the trip!
As for Ohio, what part? My DH was born in Dayton, grew up in Lima.

And, pixiedust:Happy New Year to everyone!pixiedust:

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

4 WEEKS!

I hope you all had a safe and fun new years eve! San Antonio lifted the fireworks ban so we had an AMAZING view behind our apartment complex!

Hi, What kind of back surgery did you have? When? I have had back surgery too, so I am just curious. I hope I can still have a good time on the cruise with my two little ones!

It's getting close now, I bet time will be flying by! I am so ready for a vacation!

Sorry I haven't posted in a while, I have just been having health issues and been extremely busy! I need to be shopping for a dress for formal night..wonder what would look good with this beautiful back brace that I have to wear all the time???LOL:rotfl:

I actually live between the two. Lima is where my sister lives and is about 45 minutes north west of us. Dayton is about 45 minutes south east (if I am correct in my geography). We actually live in a small town called Bellefontaine. Not much here really.
I can't wait until the cruise. I already am looking for a future one. Although I think it may be a different cruise line. Wanting an Alaskan but still not sure. We cruise every 3 years so we have time to rethink it. ;)

See you on the magic in 4 weeks!!! :yay:

I had surgery on Nov. 2nd. They had to fuse my L4/L5 with rods and screws. I was to be released for work on 2/2 but actually am released early and go back to work on Tuesday. I am so excited. I actually feel wonderful. I have moments but let me tell you, it is far better then before surgery.
I had to wear the back brace for the first 4 weeks. They had me take it off and it was my choice if I felt I needed it. Let me tell you, it makes you so weak if you don't already know this. I could walk two doors down then I was so out of breath and totally exhausted. Almost had to take a nap. So therapy was great. Said most after 6 weeks have 45% mobility and I had 90%.
I have to say it is amazing. I am so thankful to my faith and my stubbornness to push myself. Between them both, I am a good statistic. ;)
What/When did you have yours?
I sure wish you the best. It is not a good thing to have done.
See you on the Magic!! :cheer2:

Hi, I had the exact same as you. I had a synovial cyst and degenerate disc disease and had to have a spinal fusion of L4/L5 with rods and screws too! I had it done on December 28th, not even a week ago. I had another back surgery 10 years ago that was a lot more intense than this one. That one was horrible to recover. This one, of course, it's only been 5 days, has been much better so far.
I am hoping that by cruise time, I will be getting around much better. Yesterday, I walked to our mailbox and back, so all togther about 600 feet. Today I am very sore..just trying to get up and moving more each day.
My sons are 5 months old and 5 years old. I can't even hold the baby right now, but the surgery was a must have thing...I was in a lot of pain before, and now it's just surgery pain. The pregancy didnt help the situation either, so once I recovered from the C-Section, I had an MRI to determine what the problem was with all the pain I was having..it was the cyst again..same thing I had 10 years ago, except it was in a different place, T11 before, and I had a discectomy in lumbar then too. This time it had to be fused bc once the cyst was out, my vertebrae would have been to weak to stay put, so they done a spinal fusion last week.
Are you still having to take the pain meds? My doc said that I may need them for up to 2 months..I sure hope not:)

I'm glad you'll both be well enough for the cruise!

I was just looking to see if a Palo brunch had opened but there are still none. But there are spots for Palo tea on day 6. I booked it for Chris and me but I may cancel his. It might be a nice treat for me. :goodvibes Has anyone in our group done it?

We are going clothes shopping next weekend. I may have a dress I can wear for formal night but I really need to try it on! I have not worn it in about three years and I am a bigger girl than I was then!!! I want Chris to wear his uniform but he is afraid he will look out of place. I told him other people wear their formal dress but he is afraid people will come up to him and thank him and shake his hand. He thinks because he has never deployed he does not deserve it. So we may be spending a ton of money on something for him to wear when he just bought a new dress blue uniform to get married in :sad2:

What do men wear for semi-formal night? :confused3

I also ordered a bunch of stuff from Amazon. A TON of sunblock, blister kits for WDW, Bonine just in case. We are leaving the 19th and going out of town the weekend of the 13th-15th so I'll be sorting and making lists starting now.

And I still need to get my FE gifts ready! For my actual FE I was just going to use a decorated canvas bag. That is ok right? I don't have the talent to make one and didn't want to spend a ton on one so I just used stuff I already had to decorate it.

Thanks the well wishes sissy ib. I say he should wear the dress uniform too! Who cares that he didn't deploy, he still served his country and deserves the thanks!!!

On the semi formal night, DH will wear some darks pants and a bottom up shirt, maybe a tie...but I doubt it.

Sisyb, thank you for the well wishes.
I am surely better now after surgery. I can't wait to get on board so I can truly enjoy time off. :)

CruisingCamper, OMG!! You just had surgery! Ok so are you wearing what they call the turtle shell brace? It is hard plastic surrounded but the velcro and elastic? Runs from your chest right under your breast to the top of your hip?
That is what makes you weak. I wore mine for 4 weeks. When I went to the Dr. he gave me the choice to wear or not. I felt the need to wear twice after but then I went to therapy and they said that it makes you so weak because it keeps you so immobile. I had checked the mail and even walked to my daughter's house 2 doors down. But then I was exhausted. My whole body would shake. Since starting therapy, I have to say I am much better. Still have some core exercises to do but I can do them on my own. I am signed off of everything. ; ) Like I said, returning to work 4 weeks early.
I have been off meds since the second week home. I only took them because I couldn't sleep. I have taken aleve since to try and help with a little pain but nothing compared to before surgery! I don't know if I could have done the cruise one month after or not. Just take it slow and easy. Maybe take your brace for when you are around a bunch of people. I was scared someone would bump me in the back!
Maybe we could meet up on this cruise for a chat. :) You take care and I surely wish you well.
See every one in a few more weeks!!

That is the kind of brace that I have. I have only been wearing it when I am trying to get up and move around alot. I am more sore in my hip than anything???? Not my back.

I would love to meet on the ship!! I hope I will be able to go, I figure by next week, I will know for sure and we did get the insurance.

I am looking at shore excurions..I think we are only booking one prior to sailing. The pirate snorkel and cruise in St. Thomas. I would really like to go to St.John, but I think DS5 would love the ship excursion.

Anybody know anyhting about the Doubloon ship?

We are going down to Orlando on the 22nd! I am so excited..it's getting close now. It's was gives me motivation to get over this surgery:)
