JANUARY 27, 2007 "PAL MICKEY" Western Magic ROLL CALL

A non-driver's license is just a state issued ID, so a legal, government issued photo ID. Doesn't Canada have an equivalent to that?

I just did a Google search. Canada's equivalent is simply called a "Canadian identification card" and is issued by the provence. It is considered an acceptable proof of citizenship document. That is what she needs.

We will have arental car and a good part of the day Friday before the cruise. I'd like to stop somwhere and get a couple of bottles of wine (to enjoy on our verandah:woohoo: ) Does anyone know the best way to carry these on the ship or if it is even allowed. Should we carry them on or pack them in our luggage?

Thanks

Supposedly it is still allowed. Definitely carry it on. Do NOT pack it in checked luggage. No matter how carefully you would pack it, luggage gets stacked high and thrown around a bit, just as with the airlines. So put it in your carry-on. :)

Also be aware that due to security (you know how it is) you can not bring your own corkscrew. When you get ready to open the wine, call room service and ask for one. Since you will be expected to tip, it makes more sense to order a little something at the same time.

Hi, There is no such thing as a Canadian identification card (here in Ontario anyway). This is something that they are looking at doing but not in place yet.

So, what do I do - will they let her keep her passport???!!!

I am starting to get stressed out about this.....

Hmmmm. That's strange. Are you SURE? Well, maybe it's just your provence that doesn't have it - LOL.

The problem is that if DCL enforces the "rules" two forms of proper identification are required - a Passport (or certified raised seal birth certificate for U.S. citizens) AND a driver's license, military or other government issued photo ID.

Maybe they will let her board anyway. For her sake, I hope they do. Security rules unfortunately seem to be a facade anyway because they are sticklers for some minor things but bend the rules occasionally for major ones.

I think you should call DCL and see what they say. :)

Canada also has this - a Citizenship Certificate that is proof of Canadian citizenship. It is not a "travel document" but is a legal, government issued ID card with photo. So that would probably be what she needs. Any Canadian citizen can apply for a citizenship certificate.

Wow! I just read the requirements for getting the Citizenship Certificate card and even that seems to require TWO forms of ID when you apply - such as a driver's license and health card.

As I suggested - Call DCL and do let us know what they say. Good luck!

Hi - thanks for looking into it. Unfortunately, she has the big citizenship certificate - no photo!!!!! And a small certificate will take weeks - something we don't have... ARRGGHHH.

Do you think they would accept a Costco card and a photocopy of her passport?? I could go tomorrow and get her put on my account....

I'm freaking out now.:scared1: :scared1:

No - They will definitely NOT accept a Costco card because credit cards/membership cards are not government issued ID. Call DCL and see if they can help you figure something out. Be sure to make it CLEAR to them that the ONLY photo ID she has is her Passport.

Binky

This will be our 7th cruise (not all with Disney though) and if I recall right every cruise we have been on, they have taken our passports for the duration of the cruise, so I wouldn't hold out hope of being able to retain your passport. I do agree that you should contact DCL and ask what to do. If she has a birth cert. bring that. Also if you know of a travel agent you could call and ask, they might be able to cut some corners for you. My sister is a travel agent for CAA, if I can get ahold of her I will run it by her.

I'm going to agree with Taswira and Cruising Canuck (and anyone else who has suggested it too) call DCL. They are the ultimate authority on what they will allow really. I'm sure they've dealt with this before and would know what to do and what you may have to go through. The rest are just guesses really.

Yeah. DCL may let her on the ship with only her Passport (although they state that a driver's license or other official photo ID is also required), but a big issue is whether they will keep her passport. If they do, I don't see how she could get off the ship on the islands. DCL will provide the answers. Just make sure to speak with someone who knows what they are talking about, like a supervisor or manager. As we all know, with just the reps, many are great but a few are not and can provide incorrect info. So when they give you an answer, ask if they can confirm that with their supervisor. Also make note of their name. It may sound mistrustful, but it's just to make certain things work out okay for you.

By the way we will have a Full Moon during our cruise! It will be on Friday, February 2nd. So there will be some magical photo ops for several nights leading up to Friday!

Decided to check the availability as of today. Only a slight change in Cat 8:

So...either someone booked a room within the last few days or they shuffled someone....There *could* be some upgrade magic on the Magic coming for some?

I'm happy with what we have - although of course wouldn't turn down The Roy or Walt Suite ... ;)

A full moon cool.

Binny hope you find a solution to your problem. Wish I could think of something else.

Speaking of the Walt & Roy Suites has anyone toured them, I was going to ask at check-in if there might be any chance to check them out before the guests who booked them get in. Has anyone ever done this? I would love to see them in case I win the lottery and can afford to book one! :rotfl2:

I got to hang around in them for awhile when I did my very first Disney cruise because it was a "Disney Cruise College" - travel agent training (seminars, ship tours) for the College of Disney Knowledge. We pretty much toured every accessible area of the ship. The Walt and Roy suites were amazing, but I kept thinking that if I ever stayed in one I would spend the entire time in my stateroom or verandah. I was staying in Cat. 5 but those suites made my room and verandah look Minnie Mouse size!

OK - spoke to DCL and am starting to feel a bit better. Explained to them that it was her only ID and was assured that it would be ok...

I don't need any extra stress:headache: :headache: - am thinking I might need to start drinking the Pina Coladas a little early :rotfl:

Thanks for everyone's advice & good wishes - can't wait to meet you on Saturday.....

Cheers,
