January 25, 2009 on the WONDER

Welcome Ganandem & Jenn! This will be a fun cruise. I'm just getting back from Star Wars Weekend. It was great. Just a little hot and humid :scared:. Parks were packed and as a result, Disney Buses were packed. I'll post a few pictures later.

Hope everyone has a great 4th.

Hi ganandem ! We're not too far from you in Pulaski :cool1: We are flying out of Rochester as flights were better there than Syracuse! U? We're excited another girl the same age as the twins.. how cool!!

Hi- We actually booked one-ways in order to get the flight times we wanted on two different airlines. We do it this way every year and it works out fine. I love that JetBLue has a non-stop that leaves after 6pm and arrives in SYR before 9pm. This way we can spend most of our departure day in Orlando, and still be home at a decent bedtime. I'm sure they will be tired, but it is only one day before the weekend and hey you never know, maybe it will be a SNOW DAY.:goodvibes We are leaving on Jan 22nd to spend a few days sightseeing before the cruise. Those plans are still up in the air. Maybe Sea World and Kennedy Space Center. We'll see.
I told my daughter about your twins and she was excited. She said she will look for twins on our next trip to Carousel Mall. Cute!

Dont forget to count us in for the fish extender as well, although I dont think ours will be anything fancy ( I have no idea what to do about making it??) but we are game

It seems like so many of us have kids in the same age group...we should definilty try to meet up on that first day so they kids can make friends before they every go into the kids club...might take away some of the anxiety about being left....

This cruise will be here before we know it:banana:

Brig

I hear ya Mintee.. I'm going to see what the Christmas Tree Shop has! We love that place there just might be an over the door shoe thingee we can convert! I'll let you know! Has anyone ever done that? OH and do we give gifts to the adults or just kids? It sounds like everyone, adults included get a goodie bag of sorts?

The kids will definitely have some connections so they can look for a familiar face when they get to the club!! Very exciting.. I know I am anxious!

thanks, i need to keep updating it for my own piece of mind! it makes it easier planning out the gifts, etc. :)

how's your fish extender coming? i haven't gotten one yet...

I'm sitting here feeling some major anxiety about motion sickness. I usually don't get motion sickness unless I'm dizzy but I've read that the first night at sea is usually pretty rough (something about crossing over from the Gulf). Has anyone done this cruise before in January?? I'm curious to see if the sea is truly rough or not.

One other thing (call me silly) but I have a HUGE phobia of seeing people get sick. I understand that people do get seasick but please tell me that you don't see people getting sick walking the deck or in the restaurants. I don't want to sound childish but I've always been this way ... even hearing someone get sick will make me sick.

I'll be wearing a patch to be sure I won't get sick and I'll bring pills for hubby to take.

One other question on a different topic ... What exactly is a fish extender? I see it mentioned on the boards all the time and I haven't the slightest idea what that means.

Hey Jenn,

We've cruised several times, and although it's been in September, October and December, we've never felt the ship moving. The only time we ever felt the ship moving was on our cruise to Alaska. You don't feel the waves in between the islands, but on the open Pacific, it was rocking.

Now we did have to change itineraries once due to an on coming Hurricane, and only then did we feel the waves, but you really don't have to worry. Just start taking your Pills or wearing the patch before you board the ship. That allows it to get into your system before the ship departs.

Hope that helps.

Oh, thank you. I"m having some major anxiety over that. I really have never had the desire to cruise but my family has asked to do a family vacation and somehow they chose a cruise.

thanks again :)

Hi Jenn,
I get seasick too but never have seen anyone get sick or gotten sick just green around the gills haha.. I also start taking my med in the morning and never have to worry and this will be our 3rd cruise! We love cruising it's great not having to worry about dinner reservations and can always run back to your room if you need to.. that makes it great and now with kids in tow i think it will be the most relaxing trip ever!! :grouphug: Let's hope!!

You don't really feel the boat rocking, but the first evening walking to dinner always seems like we can't walk a straight line! I read somewhere that it has something to do with crossing the gulf stream or something like that - you don't feel it on the way home because it's the middle of the night & we are all in bed. Nothing that has ever made us sick - we even cruised during Hurricane Jeanne in 2004 when I was pregnant and we were fine. I've heard if you start the patch the day before boarding it helps, but I have never tried it so I don't know.

There is a metal fish outside of each stateroom door that DCL uses to hold mail or invites for that stateroom. You can hang an "extender" on it with pockets called a "fish extender" - basically looks like a wall pocket organizer. Dis groups organize a fish extender exchange where each stateroom participating goes around and leaves little gifts in the pockets of the extender for each stateroom. Here are a couple of links to see some pics of extenders and some gifts that have been exchanged in the past:

this one has some pics of them hanging outside staterooms:

this one talks about the little "gifts":

We have one organized for this cruise - if you want to participate let us know! :)

I finished my fish extender! Now I just have to figure out how to post pictures on here... I will try to figure it out when I get off of work today!

Wow! I cant believe how with it you guys are regarding this fish extender. I really appreciate the link that showed what they looked like because I didnt have any visual context of what we were trying to make

So now I know what it looks like...the game begins on what prizes to give out....hmm...that is a hard one....
