January 24, 2013 3-Night Bahamian Cruise on Disney Dream

My wife, my 3 year old son, and myself are going on our first ever Disney cruise. After being a Disney fanatic for years (I live about 15 minutes from the Florida parks) we've decided to finally go!

Welcome aboard - you will have a great time. Seriously I don't know how I am going to make it through 7 more work days, I think I have DADD (Disney Attention Deficit Disorder).... Whenever we have a trip planned I cannot focus on anything else... LOL. I wonder if there is a treatment for that? :rotfl2: My kids aren't even as excited right now as I am!

I think I definitely have DADD now - spent way too much time on photobucket looking
For door decorations yesterday. 6 more days of work and then off we go!
We are heading straight for the pool/aqua duck when we board- anyone else?

Hey bzzelady, I just read your post on the room assignments and I just want to say I am so sorry for your loss. We had a horrible year of loss ,also. That is probably why I decided to plan a cruise at all. It has given me some sanity. I hope you get a great room and have the best trip ever!

mom4fun...you're still waiting for a room too, aren't you? Hope we all hear soon :goodvibes

It has been a very long two years and this will be a much needed break. I tried to get my DM to come along...but she wanted to stay home. Between my father's illness and death, working on my master's degree, and DH trying to take his finger off with the router the day the cruise booking went through...I am so ready to sit on a verandah with a book in one hand and holding my DH's hand with the other. The DD13 already has her time planned out and most of it does not include us...she is planning Aquaduck, Edge, and movies for Nassau day (they grow up so fast...don't they?).

Yes, still waiting. I think it will be Monday, unless they give out cabin assignments on weekends, which I doubt. Yes, they grow up too fast, especially right now, so I am going to enjoy every minute of it.:)

I see from the FE list that your DS is about the same age as my DD...I'm certain that they will probably cross paths in the Edge.

I'm not betting on any room assigning happening over the weekend. Maybe we will get our cabin assignments at port...hopefully before we board the boat

I prob missed this but is there a meet scheduled?

Thanks for the welcome everyone! I know what you mean about not being able to wait! Fortunately, only being a few miles away we can get a quick fix by hitting the parks but it's getting harder to wait! We are GFY as well and still have not received room assignments. Looks like it's gonna be at check in :)

We're waiting for a GTY too! Seems like it is going to be at the port. We leave in one week exactly :)

Well...glad to be in good company while waiting for a place to call "home" while we are on the boat!

My packing advice is to bring medicine. We didn't on our second cruise and paid for it. No Walgreens to pull into and get meds. We now take kids and adult meds. With the flu going around, you never know what can happen.

And our vgt room assignment turned out to be 8122. Killer room at a great price!

Welcome conan979!

Yes...I second what you are saying about not being near a drugstore. I usually make certain that I have the basics with me, plus hand sanitizer and Clorox wipes.

Nice room assignment...congratulations! Several of us are bemoaning the fact that we still don't have a home, but we are always happy to hear about our shipmates who have met with good fortune. Hopefully the rest of us will hear this week :)

I agree! I once was able to get polysporin (just a small pack) from the medical center on the Magic, but I always bring baby Tylenol, Benadryl, bandaids, Vicks, etc... You never know what you might need. I bring everything I ever have occasion of needing at home. Never regretted it yet.

Hello .......... me and 17 other cruisers will be on the 24 Jan sailing of the Dream. We call our group "Cruise for a cure". We give 10.00 per person sailing extra and we donate that money to charities like Relay for Life or the American Heart association. It's a great way to raise money for a good cause. Maybe we will see yall onboard. Lourie

There is a medical center on the bottom floor of the boat if you need something you forgot. On our last trip my younger guy's bottom got a little sore from some constipation (sorry, if this is TMI...), but anyway, we went down there to get some med. lotion for him and they only charged me $3. Yes, I could have bought it at walgreens probably for $1.50, but was relieved that they didn't charge me $20! They also have staff members standing in front of each dining room as you enter with sanitizing wipes, which impressed me. Also - wait until you see the hand washing station in the kid's center - specifically Oceaneer's club - it is very cool. I won't give anything away for the newbie's.

Lolita18 - welcome aboard - that is a very cool fundraiser. We do the Relay for Life every year and a cruise with 18 people sounds like a lot more fun than walking around a high school track all night! I'll need to mention this to our team captain for next year!

Holy cow - I just found out that I have MLK Day off of work!:yay: I had no idea - I started working here last March, but had transferred in from another part of the organization - and we NEVER had MLK Day. So - only 5 more working days... What an awesome surprise. Totally made my day, so one more packing day for me - don't feel so stressed about it now.
