January 24th: Day 2
This morning we awakened at 7:30. We got up leisurely and watched as the ship was coming into Nassau.
I got into the shower just as the Captain was backing into Nassau. Our shower does not have a tub, the water drains into the floor around the shower. Unfortunately, as he was turning, the water would slosh out. The bathroom flooded! Probably not a good time to shower! We went to the beach blanker buffet for breakfast. It was good. I especially like the made to order omelets and the salmon. Then we headed into Nassau. It was cool, about 60 out when we got off the ship. We immediately went to find a taxi so that we could go to Atlantis. There were eight of us. Of course, the locals bombarded us asking if we needed taxi rides. There was one man that seemed ok, so we asked him. $4 for each of us. The ride was uneventful. We were in a van type taxi. It was ok. The driver was good. I did not realize that as they are governed by England, that they drive on the opposite side of the road and also drive on the right of the car. It was weird. Atlantis was beautiful. We went to the casino for a little while. I lost about $70 between the 2 of us. One in our group won $400 on craps. We were only there about 2 hours. Then we headed back towards the ship to shop. Personally, the only reason we got off of the ship is because I had never been to Nassau. To do it over, I will not get off the ship. It was filthy. The locals were rude. The prices were high. Enough said. We went to Senor Frogs on the waterfront for lunch and had Nachos. They were huge and two of us split them and could not finish. One person in our group (very reserved) was picked by a roving worker to come sing Karaoke with him. The man was extremely insistent. He had a microphone and all eyes were on our Table. Philip finally went up and sang with him. It was so funny! We got some great pictures and a great memory. After that we roamed through the shops. We skipped the straw market. Then we went back to the ship at about 3pm. Our ressies at Palo were at 6 and we wanted to play Bingo at 4:45. So we rested and then we got ready for dinner. Side Note: the night before we still had not received the garment bag after dinner. So we called the front desk. They started to look for it and at 11:30 they left us a message that it was found and we could pick it up in the morning. We went to Bingo, all dressed up. It was fun. My husband and I went alone. We had a drink and relaxed. It was so nice. I did not win this time. Finally it was time to go to Palos! I had been looking so forward to this! We got the restaurant and we were guided to the private dining room! How nice! A big room to ourselves and a great view! The sun was just setting. We all ordered appetizers and salad. I ordered just the tomatoes and buffalo mozzarella. The waitress was amazing! She also brought us out bread with dipping sauces and antipasto with proscuitto and parmesan and two pizzas. We had some champagne. For my main course, I ordered the filet with the gorgonzola cheese sauce. It melted in my mouth. The waitress brought out all of the main courses and then she brought out more to try! We were stuffed, but we had to try the soufflé! She actually took the orders for this prior to the main course. We had sweet pizza also and the soufflé! I cannot describe this! It was phenomenal. It melted in my mouth. It was a chocolate soufflé that they serve hot. The poke a hole in the top and pour in warm vanilla syrup and warm melted chocolate. Ahh! But the waitress did not stop there. She also brought out two additional desserts for us to try. A tiramisu and a cappuccino cheesecake. Both were to die for! I rolled out of that restaurant. Now a word here about the cost. It was $10 per person, gratuity not included. You will never ever eat like that for $10 plus tip. We left her a $30 tip, so our bill came to $50 plus champagne. It was worth every penny. After dinner, we changed back into comfortable clothes and headed down to the theatre for the Juggling show. It was the same man who preformed the night before. We got seats about 5 rows up on the left. He again was hysterical, less adult humor but funny. Then he wanted a volunteer from the audience to help him. The night before, that person was embarrassed horribly. So tonight, we were all pointing at each other. He selected one of the younger women who was traveling with us. The routine was different. It involved a unicycle. Max was trying to get on the unicycle. That part was so funny. I thought I was going to have an accident. But the funniest was that he wanted Ginny to throw him some juggling pins when he was up there so he could juggle them while riding the unicycle. He had to get on the unicycle by placing it on the floor and getting on it from the stage. But he was having trouble riding it. He smashed into the far right wall and was handing on to the molding for dear life. So he said that would be ready for Ginny to throw him the pins. He was going to finish by saying, when I get on the stage. But she did not let him finish and she threw them all the way across the front of the theater at him. He ducked and almost fell and I laughed and laughed. I mean, I could not breathe! What a great show and great memories. After the show we went to watch the Match your Mate Game It was really funny. Then we decided to head to our rooms. We walked around the ship a little and once again retired at 1 am. What a great day!
Tomorrow: The Spa, Castaway Cay, Snorkeling and Animators Palate
