January 23rd: Ready to Go!
We awoke early on Sunday. I spent Saturday packing, but I needed to do last minute ironing and make sure that I had all of the necessary paperwork and that our bags were tagged. We went out to breakfast and left for Port Canaveral at 11:30 am. We live in Kissimmee. We arrived at the terminal at 12:25. We unloaded our bags from the cars. It was so cold (50s) and the wind was a blowing! We waited for the men while they parked the cars. We went through security with no problems and up the escalator! OMG! The terminal is so beautiful! The Mickey ears were beckoning us. We got in line to check. They were already boarding the ship. I could not wait. It took about 15 minutes to get through the line and check in. Then we were ready to go. I was panicking. It was 2 minutes till one and the schedule said that the Palo reservations and the spa reservations were occurring at 1 pm in two different locations. We also needed to request a switch in our seating as they had put us in the 2nd seating. One of the group is a diabetic. So I gave specific directions to the men to go make the Palo ressies for Monday night (Pirates Night) and to request the dining switch, while the ladies went to the spa. We went through the ears and got our debarkation photo done. Then we were announced and boarded the ship! Woo Hoo! It looks just like the pictures! OK I looked, now to get our ressies. We all decided to meet in Parrot Cay when we were done to have lunch. The ladies headed to the spa. We told them that we did not want the tour. We were all going to get the lime ginger scrub with the massage. But when we approached the table, there was a sign for ladies morning on Wednesday for $125. It was castaway cay day. The morning included a massage of the back, hands, arms, neck, scalp and feet, after which you would receive an aromatherapy facial. Then we could spend a half hour in the rainforest having chocolates and champagne! My kind of morning! We asked for the earliest appointment so we would not miss the day at the Cay. They had ressies at 8 am, so we signed up and were on our way. I took about 25 minutes as there was a line and only one CM taking ressies. Many people had a ton of questions when they got to the front of the line so that held things up. We went to Parrot Cay and had lunch. The men had also had some success! We had Palo ressies for Monday night at 6. Unfortunately, we were on a waiting list for the seating change as the ship was full. The buffet was sooooo good. The endless shrimp. UMM! After we ate we had the men take our carry ons to the room while the women attended the shopping briefing for Nassau. My advice: Dont waste your time going. It was recorded and then played in our stateroom over and over again. After this we went to our rooms to unpack as we had a half hour until the emergency lifeboat drill. We had four staterooms together, ours being the last one in the aft of the boat. We were in 7638 on Deck 7. OMG! The room is huge! When you walked in we had a huge entrance way with the bed and then a huge sitting area. The verandah was three times the size of a normal one. It had a table and 6 chairs on it and still had a ton of room to walk around. The view was amazing, even though we had a solid verandah! We were right next to the private deck. (Tip: No one ever used that deck!) The bathroom was amazing. It was one bathroom set up for a handicapped person. It was huge! We had so much room in it. The Next amazing thing was the closet. We had a walk in! Huge! You could have fit a twin bed in there and still had room to spare. The room next to ours was also handicapped, but ours was bigger and had a bigger Verandah. They also did not have a walk in closet, and the bathroom was smaller. Our bags had arrived and we unpacked. Our garment bag had not arrived yet. This had my husbands suit and dress shirts in it so I was concerned. We were eating at Tritons the first night. We went down for the drill. Our meeting spot was in animators Palate. The whole thing lasted about 15 minutes. After that we went to the Atrium for the sail away party. It was moved indoors due to the wind and the cold temps. The atrium was crowded, so we watched it from upstairs looking down into the lobby. It was less crowded. I had a Bahama Mama in the signature Disney Cruise line glass and listened to all of the partying go on. The kids were wild! Then my husband called me over to the window overlooking the port. There was a school of Dolphins right next to the boat. I have never seen Dolphins in the ocean so I rushed out onto the deck. We got some pictures and then we headed back in. The characters were out at this time and they were getting ready to move. We headed out onto the deck to see the ship leave. The Ship was escorted out to the ocean by the coast guard. Then out on the banks .there they were .the Mickey Hand wavers! Even in the wind and cold they were there! It was magical! We stayed out there for about a half hour. I was soooo cold! We then went back to our rooms and finished unpacking. At this point the ship was really rocking. The Captain came on and said that the waves were about 17 feet high and the wind was at 31 mph. I had brought Dramamine and Bonine as well as sea bands, but really did not need to use any of them. Even though I almost fell a couple of times because of the rocking, I never felt sick. We up to change for the show and dinner. The show started at 6:30 and tonight was Hercules. Upon arriving to the stateroom, Enrique introduced himself and let us know he was our stateroom host. I asked for a feather pillow at that time. Our garment bag had still not appeared. I called the front desk and they told me to give it some more time. OK. So my husband wore Khakis and a polo to dinner. The other young couple we were traveling with had sent his suit to be pressed. It would not be ready until the next day at 5! UGH! He had to wear Jeans. But he called the front desk and they said it was OK. We went to the show. It was great! A lot of adult humor. And such talent! Even with the boat rocking so badly. . At 7:45 there was Bingo. We headed to Wavebands for Bingo. It cost $35 for a 6 pack (6 chances each for 5 games) and $25 for the three pack. My husband and I got one 6 pack together and played off of it. It was so fun and not very crowded. I won game three! $133! What a great way to start the cruise! After Bingo we went to dinner at Tritons. The boat was rocking hard and I had to sit with my back to the front of the boat. That means I was traveling backward. I did get nauseous for a minute, but it subsided. I ordered the shrimp cocktail. Then I had the duck! It was so good. I ended with the soufflé! It was so good! The warm chocolate made it! (Tip: There were many people wearing Jeans in the dining room) After dinner we decided to go to the comedy/juggling show at Wavebands and after that was 70s night. The show was hysterical. I laughed and laughed! He was amazing. We stayed for about a half hour into 70s night and then decided it was too loud. We headed up on the top deck. The wind had died down and the boat was not rocking as hard. We went to the cove café and had a latte. We found out on the big TV that Johnny Carson had died. The comedian had the top 10 list in his routine. Ironic. We walked around the deck. Went up to the top and viewed the ocean and just enjoyed being there. We headed to our cabin and called it a night at 1 am. Tomorrow: Nassau .Atlantis .Senor Frogs and Palo!
